If I put her in R, its as if (I imagine) a hydraulic piston puts something against a turning axle (inside the box).
The truck as a whole only has 8000Miles (Honest!)
I have to check on the fluid,There is about 1/2" above the crosshatched section, The truck was still warm, I started her, selected all gears back and forth, put her in P and checked the dipstick. (I hope that's the correct procedure?)
I drove her before I noticed that, and other than the noise no problems.
I do have a small film, don't know how to post that one?
Hi Mark, That would be miraculous! sorry, I'm on the other site of that big pond, France in the old country.
I'll try to explain, every time I put the box in R (doesn't matter if I come there from P or N) you hear 3x wischwischwisch, like there is an axle turning and when you put her in"R" a hydraulic piston is pushing against that axle?
keep in mind, this is a '89 E4OD, and the whole truck has only 8000 real miles.
i dunno what that is either.i would describe it as "light tick" sound.or "light scrape".
does it keep making the noise for as long as you keep it in reverse? or only at first?
it almost sounds like it could be a short in the solenoids.kinda has that solenoid buzz sound to it.but with it happening while (or in?) reverse, that doesn't add up.
it's probably right in a frequency range that you lost as time went by Mark.it's a wonder it can be heard over the engine by any of us really.towards the end of his video,it's a very quick tick,tick,tick.......tick,tick,tick,as if a light scraping sound.........
hmmm.have you inspected the torque converter nuts to insure they're still tight? you might find something odd/bent with the inspection cover too when you go to check.
I can read that over and over. And I've listened over and over. I do not hear ANYTHING except the engine running.
My son had a car a couple years ago that had a spark knock problem. When I was his age listening for spark knock was part of my job. I did it literally every day. I couldn't hear his car knocking. He couldn't believe it, but I can't hear it. When I was doing it every day I worked with someone that was the age I am now. He couldn't hear the knock that I could hear.
Sorry I can't help you, but I cannot diagnose a noise I can't hear. My record for diagnosing noises over the internet remains perfect. I've never been able to do it.
