Hi again im changing my tranny fluid in my 2000 expy 4wd with the 4r100 tranny with the plug in the pan and was told by somone to take out the plug in the converter too and drain that. my quest is if i do that will the pump in the tranny fill the converter back up. Ive never drained one that way and am not sure. thanx for looking!
Yes, the pump will fill the converter back up. Just keep in mind that the fluid in the pan will get sucked out real fast as the converter gets filled up. So keep a good eye on your fluid level.
Must be nice to have a tranny pan plug.... A tranny fluid bath, and or slow draining is no fun.. I need to add a drain plug next time. I assume that there is not one there, since it may lead to drain and refill only.
I recently drained, new filter, drained the TC, and added about half capacity and let it run a few minutes and then added more to bring the level up.
There are plenty of threads and many strong opinions as to how best to handle a tranny fluid change. You may consider doing a search to get more info. But it sounds like you know what your doing. Most of us would love to have a transmission drain plug.
Hello all,
I am about to do my first tranny fluid change also and was thinking back to my '02 F150 4x4 supercrew lariat. It had a drain bolt on the torque converter (if I am remembering correctly) but my '01 and my '03 did not. I now drive an '04 expy xlt 4.6 2x4 (I know, I know...I just couldn't afford the 4x4!) anyway, I was wanting to do the full monty fluid change and was wondering if anyone knows if my expy has the drain on the torque converter? I THINK it has pretty much the same 4r70w (or something like that) tranny as my f150's, isn't it? If not, should I just pony up and pay Ford to power flush all the fluid out? I just hit 40K miles and should have done this 10K ago but work, family, blah, blah, blah....
