Get your power from the ignition switch or something or something else that goes dark when you turn the key off..
The switch that I used is a six pole, three position switch ON/OFF/ON.
Here is the thread that I wrote about it a long time ago.
Hey Dan thanks a bunch for all of the help. Going to Florida tonight so I won't be able to do this mod until late next week but will let you guys know how it went.
I wouldn't bother with getting the power from the brake light switch.
It takes a few seconds for the EBPV to close after the power is applied.
IMO it is a lot better to just have it on a manual switch so that you can throw it while descending a long hill and let it go about it's work.
.
The only time that I use it is when I am pulling the trailer and descending mountain pass.
It makes the difference between having to ride the brake pedal all the way down VS only having to occationally touch the brake pedal to bring the speed back down to safe limits.

So it really doesn't help for stopping in city traffic when pulling?

Not really because it takes so long to start working.
It really is best for speed control on long downhill stretches with a big load pushing you faster and faster.
For that it is stellar.
Got ya. Well I think I am still going to do the mod because you never know when you will need it & it will be cool that I actually have an exhaust brake. Dan, thanks for all of the help. I really appreciate it.
