Dammit quit talking about school! I don't have to go back for another month and a half! AAAAaaaahhh!
John:
Random fact about me I've been going to private school since kindergarten. I can honestly say I think it is the best thing that ever happened to me. None of the BS of public school. I never have to worry about someone bringing a gun to school or threatening to blow the school up. (Both happen on a regular basis in the public school I'd end up at) The best part (IMO) is that I know everyone in my entire highschool and they all know me. Well except for maybe 1 stuck-up b**ch, but I don't consider IT a person. Most all kids who come from public schools end up in lower grades of math coming in to my school. ie: A kid in my class came from public school. I believe he is going to be in Algebra 1 next year as opposed to Algebra 2 like everyone else. That means he's behind by 2 levels of math. It goes Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trig? not sure about the last one. But yea we've got a way more advanced curriculum than public school AND the teachers at my school actually all give a damn about what happens with their students.
The only thing that sucks is we don't have enough people for a lot of sports teams or anything like that. We've got boys basketball, soccer, and girls volleyball. That's it. But I am trying to start a car club or something this fall. Crazy (mama) says I have to do something if I'm not doing soccer or I can't drive my truck. WTF does my truck have to do with me playing soccer? It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Thanks a million Pete! Those are all things we've been considering so thanks for confirming a lot of what we'd thought.. My son will be in first grade this year and he's reading on a 3rd grade level. My daughter will be in third grade and reads on a 6th grade level. Both are advanced in math skills too. The problem we see is that a lot of the kids that struggle get a lot more attention from the teachers. And, there's nothing wrong with that because they need to be able to excel like any kid. The problem is that you get kids that need to be challenged so they don't get bored and they are not getting the same attention and aren't being challenged enough.
Plus, the BS in public schools is getting to be a little much anymore. Not going to get into politics other than to say that a lot of it plays into the school systems as well.

John: That is a problem in the lower grades. I was and still am one of the kids who can sit and daydream for an entire class and still be able to do the homework. Except in Geometry this year. That was about the only class I absolutely had to pay attention. A lot of that fixes itself when they eventually hit high school or middle school. In elementary they can't do a whole lot other than try to help get the slower kids through.
While I can understand it being a concern I don't see it being a massive issue. And another random tidbit:
People bi**h and moan about dress codes/uniforms but I don't think it's a big deal really. My school's dress code is no t-shirts, no blue jeans, shirts tucked in for guys, and no sneakers in essence. They want to see kids wear nice shoes, khakis, and a collared shirt, but there's a fair number of loopholes.
ie: Black jeans are allowed. Blue jeans are not. You can get away with wearing work boots. I have my shirt un-tucked most of the time. Not a major issue. You get used to it pretty quick. Not a huge deal.

You're probably right. My 16 year old had it pretty much through all the grades though. We have decided though, that they will both be out of public school by the time they hit middle school. The middle school here is terrible.
The dress code is fine with me and I wish they had it in the public schools. My 16 year old thought it would be cool when he was about 9 to try to wear his pants down around his crack when we were in the mall one day. I yanked them up so high, the waistband was almost scrubbing his armpits and had a little heart to heart with him while busting his ****. He didn't do it again. Uniforms and / or dress code is fine with me.
Ashley stood up and spoke at a uniform meeting for her high school. she got a standing ovation because of this line thrown out by the anti uniform groups...We want our individuality" Ashley said it best " How can you claim individuality is the issue when you are all in Hollister, Abercrombie and EA? You are all dressed identical now. You are all sheeple! All you girls wear low rise jeans, rainbow flip flops and name brand baby tee. Guys wear AE or A7F shorts, same name tees and either nike or rainbow flip flops. You are cookie cutter kids" (she also argued the point that the cheerleaders get to wear their skirts at crotch level but none of the other girls could during school hours)
She hit it dead on. The school board offered up 20 different ways to wear the uniform. Khaki skirt long or hand above knee length, pants, capris, shorts knee length. Your choice of 4 different color polos, dress type shoes or tennies. jacket, hoodie etc. The parents that voted no were the ones who have kids that appearance means everything to themselves and family. Needless to say uniforms lost.
