LOL...Lloyd ! Well thats if your were to take me out for $100 dinner and ship me the Block !!
Ya never know,,, I might just have to will it to ya.
A friend of mine died about 21 days ago, and he had three barns 50 ft x 100 ft filled with old dodge, plymouth, and chrysler cars. His wife told me that people were coming over telling her that Paul said that when he died that he wanted them to have a car. I was one of his best friends and he never said that he was going to leave a certain car to a certain person. I went over to see what was going on, and his barns were almost empty. About four cars left out of 60 or 70. Some where back in the 1930's. Some people are like buzzards circling.
So, I better make up a will, just in case.
"There will be a clause, that if I die from a "hit" the will is void...LOL...
LMAO Lloyd, Yeah will me that Bad boy and some parts too !! The way thing are going in this economy that might end up being the only way I'll get my retirement Hotrod done? I think I'd put a huffer on it and drop it in something light... YeeeeHaaaa!!

Believe me...when I say...you were far better off without it!

Air suspension? NOT!
It's Torsion-Level Ride. Packard was the first US car to have torsion bars.
Two 9 foot torsion bars attached to the rear axle, two more shorter bars attached to the front suspension. The two long bars attached to the short bars, then these bars attached to a motor on the X member section of the frame.
There was a switch under the dash above the hand brake that when activated raised or lowered the rear end.
You could put the bumpers down to within inches of the road...it really freaked ppl out...especially the low riders when you activated this switch as you were drivin' down the road.
The problem was...water got into that motor...wherever the suspension was set...the car stayed in that position till it was fixed.
The Ultramatic (ULCERmatic is what they shoulda called it) transmission used in these cars were the most awful POS ever sold to the public. It had a lock up torque converter that stayed locked up when the sprag reversed. There was no center support in this trans, just bronze bushings...within a year or less, the whole tamale sagged inside.
The V8 engine used a combo vacuum pump/oil pump. The vacuum pump operated the wipers. This liitle darlin' sucked air. You knew this was occuring the second the lifters began to clack.
I'm a sucker for punishment as I have owned 30 1955/56 Packards.
Oh...and I'm usually up this time of night.
btw: Did'ja know that before I was a Ford partsman...I was a Studebaker/Packard partsman?
Yup...
I own two Packards today, but they are pre-wars...a 1934 V12, and a 1939 Super 8.
I also have a 1963 Studebaker R2 Super Hawk / R2 = 289 4V with a Paxton Supercharger.
wow that was some amount of Packs you had...and I love the looks of those studie's too.. I had a Bud back in my USAF days that had a Suercharged Stud...and that thing would run hard for the time..Not real light cars..
The 57 belair I had was pretty neat...I think it was one that the Power steering pump ran off the back of the generator.. It was also an A/C car...2 dr. hardtop...thats another one I should have never sold!! LOL
No scheiss Sherlock. The Packard in question that has that supposed 427 in it...now...had a 352 in 1955, not 1954...and you brought up that 352 jazz.
I was just pointing out the 352 in the '55/56 Packard was not the same as an FE engine...it's actually a copy of the Cadillac 331 introduced in 1949.
WHOA pardner.....I was not talking about a 352 Packard or even any Packard,,, I was just saying I have a 352 "427" which the last time I looked was a Ford.
My dad did own a 50 something Packard convertible. I think it might have been between a 52 to 54. It was a nice looking car for the time. It was built like a tank.

That total was just for 1955/56's. I've owned 61 Packards from a 1921 Deluxe 8 to a 1956 Caribbean Hardtop.
I"ve owned 10 Studie Hawks. Recently sold an all original 10,000 actual mile 1956 Golden Hawk that had the 352 Packard V8 with a T85 O/D and P/S. Studebaker made exactly three like this. Only one was made at the LA assembly plant...this one.
I owned a '57 Bel-Air 2dr HT 40 some years ago...don't remember where I got it, but I sold it for 500 bucks, it was like new with 40K on the clock.
Since 1956, I've owned 327 cars/trucks. At least 80 were FoMoCo vehicles. Delaware Chapter: Thread: How many Ford's have you owned, post #49.

I've got one you'd probably like, sold my '35 Olds Business Coupe at a swap meet in Sacramento, and brought home a '62 Studdypecker Hawk GranTurismo that was across the aisle from me. Original drivetrain is all there, haven't tried to start it, but the carb & ignition was all sealed up with plastic, engine may be good. Solid body, most all of the trim is there, had an extra dash and other stuff sitting in the back seat, but the nice part was when I got it home and got the trunk open- piled high with stainless, chrome, extra door panels, glass, original radio, etc. The glass was broken in the clock, but in the trunk, another complete clock. $1200 with clean paperwork
Yes, but it's a Studebaker [Avanti] engine, not a Ford engine.
The car is one of two pre-production show cars and was at the USAC Speed Trials held at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1962.
An Andy Granatelli prepared Avanti set the record for the flying mile at that event.
