500hp......yeah, this thing will be a blast to drive, for sure.
However, I bet you money that all the enthusiasm for this engine will vanish like a fart in the wind once gas prices get back up to $4.00+/gallon.
yah but if you have enough cash to go buy a 6.2 raptor with all the options witch is going to be 50k give or take a few thousand, you probably will have enough cash to not care about 4$+ gas. Besides its all about compromises, 500hp for 14mpg or 310hp for what 18mpg on a good day?

Actually I get 18mpg highway on an average day. 19-20 on a good day. I average about 16.5 with mixed city and highway driving. These '09s do a lot better on fuel than most people realize.
You are very right, though, when you basically said if you can afford the truck, then you likely can afford the gas. The problem is that it is a mental thing for a lot of people. The thought of only getting 14mpg will scare off a lot of buyers, especially once fuel prices spike again (and they will). If I just think back to when fuel jumped last year, people were selling off/trading their trucks left and right at huge losses just to buy something that gets better mileage. In truth, if they had done the math, many of them probably would have been better off keeping their truck and driving it, instead of spending the money on the trade. Even I thought about trying to find a cheap, high mileage, gas sipper to drive every day. But, every time I actually took the time to figure it up, it never would pay off. Most people don't think that way, though.

I could afford a raptor and i would be worried about Fuel cost. My truck is doing over $200 a month on fuel and i dont do many miles a month thats at $1.76 a gallon at last fill up. If that went to even double that im talking $400 a month on fuel. Thats with a truck that gets 18mpg tops. If we are talking a raptor which is prob going to be driven with a heavy foot most of the time then your looking at a high of 14mpg tops. So with fuel at $3.52 your prob not talking far of $500 a month fuel cost. Thats almost my truck payment a month with minimal driveing.

I am still thinking you are in minority when it comes to this. It is a SVT truck and with 500hp on tap this truck isnt for everyone.
I am sure Ford has thought of the gas prices and figures they will still come out on top, they are still hurting for cash and i doubt they will go through with anything they preject to lose money.
But for me the raptor would be a great improvment over my 05 roush. The raptor has more power and i get 14-15 mpg as of now, so another 80hp, lower gears, and a six speed and no loss in milage, that raptor is for me lol

Being able to qualify to buy that truck and being able to are two different things......I could by the numbers afford to buy a corvette z06 (the thought has crossed my mind numerous times).....but i also know i'd be swimming in a sea of debt......unfortunately too many guys own trucks they can't hardly afford the gas for
