I was looking at Wally World and the Fram 6.0l Oil Filter is now different than what is in the Motorcraft box. In fact the Fram filter says Made in USA on it. Any ideas when this changed?
Racor changed their manufacturing from Germany to the USA about 1-1/2 years ago. Depending on inventory, there are both floating around in distribution.
The key are the patent numbers and the felt base. If in dought, buy the Motorcraft oil filter at Walmart.. they are only a $1 - $3.00 more... but double check to make sure no one switched them inside the boxes... but if they did, Framm is a Racor made oil filter (for the 6.0L motor that is).

I know Fram DID sell the repackaged RACOR's. I am just very skeptical of industry in these days of economic troubles. It is entirely possible that they switched to selling an aftermarket filter and cutting corners. I expect we will see more and more of that in the days to come.
Everyone would be well advised to inspect them carefully before buying IMO.
BBC - you had an old post that listed the patent numbers, dimensions, descriptions, etc. on the OEM filter. It was great. I have the info somewhere in a spreadsheet. I will look for it to re-post (unless you have it handy).
Make sure Oil filters are OEM style. Check:
1. One piece top (NO plastic cap adaptor)
2.Top is glued to the filter media
3. Patent numbers (below)
4. Felt gasket on bottom
5. Diameter - exactly 1.5"
6. Length - exactly 6.5" (excluding the 4 snap tabs on top)
7. Filters are stiff and resist any twisting motion
8. 52 or 53 pleats
9. Pleats are 11/16" wide and 6 3/8" tall
U.S. Patent 6.554.139 describes the filter components (the good stuff, made by the Parker-Hannifin Corporation).
U.S. Patent 6.086.763 refers to the front disk assembly (not quite as important - made by Ing. Walter Hengst GmbH & Co.).

I checked the Fram vs. Motorcraft oil filters at Wal-Mart last week. They were the same.
Sometimes people return the filter, after they put the wrong one in it.

Both of my sources for filters have not had the fram filters the last time I checked, I don't know if wally world carries the motorcraft filters here or not, I know I can't get my oil there, or Canadian tire, only one place carries rotella 5/40 in my town. All they carry is the wix filters though which sucks.
I looked at another store last night. Both the FRAM and Motorcraft filters were Made in USA and had the same numbers. The only difference was one filter had white print on the bottom and the other had yellow.
Bismic, once again you amaze me. I bought filters from Dieselfiltersonline and was concerned they were repackaged, this information confirms they are genuine Motorcraft - thanks for this info.
