Problem with key sensor after theft attempt

I was hoping for a little advice as I work on a better repair job by a local firm that worked on my truck after some scumrats tried to steal it. They popped the passenger door lock and them ripped off the plastic deal the ignition key inserts into...so it was towed to a "preferred provider" for my insurance company (not wise on my part) for repair.

Things were ok for a few months, now when I turn off the ignition and take out the key, the sensor starts "bing bonging" like the key is still in the ignition or the lights are on. Also, it is taking a few miles before the doors automatically lock. If I wiggle the plastic housing where the key inserts, the sound will stop. I have opened the door and it will sound randomly also with no key in.

I figure the replacement Ignition Lock cylinder is bad, or could it be a wiring issue? If I go in armed with some knowledge, I may have a better outcome. In any event, they supposedly have a lifetime warranty on all repairs. In retrospect, I wish I had gone to the Ford dealership. If relating all this helps out someone else on here, then that is good also.

Thanks for any advice, they are going to have to make it "like new" somehow.

I would take it back and show them... that should be enough. Install jimmi jammers, that should prevent them from popping the lock again.

Take the cover off and have a look. That sound like some loose conections to me. If that the case maybe you are going to find some messy repairs on your harness.

I suppose you have the electronic key. If that the case beware that if you have any issues with the key sensor or the antiheft module you could be on the side of the road with no way around to start your truck.

At least that was the case when I start digging for some info on this subject when I was trying to solve a problem on my 1999 F150 that has gonne to a better life now.

Thanks for the replies. It apparently is simply the wire or the sensor: loose or bad wire/connection, or bad sensor. There was a thread talking about ways to wire in a switch to temporarily turn off the "door chime", so that clarified things a little. They probably just put in the new ignition lock cylinder and did not check the wires leading into it. I want to sell this truck so I want it as functional as possible.

I would take it back to the repair facility and see if they are willing to address the issue. If they won't step up to the plate, or don't address the issue to your satisfaction, consult your insurance co. Most insurance companies will warranty the repair by a preferred provider.

Is there any way to install a computer chipped ignition (chip in the key to start the vehicle) in my F-350 that currently doesn't have it? If so, how simple is this install?
