Welcome to FTE 71'3604speed,

What have you checked so far?
Did you check both bulbs or fuses yet?

I know this is basic, but you could list what you did so far.

Welcome to FTE

Your user name makes reference to a 4 speed manual.

With a 4 speed manual transmission, the backup light switch is located...and...screws into the shift lever tower.

6L5Z15520A .. Backup Light Switch (Motorcraft SW6396)

Available from Ford

MSRP: $33.29 // FTEpartsguy.com price: $17.98

If some of y'all are curious, 6L5Z15520A replaced C9TZ15520C (Motorcraft SW840)

if its a manual check the switch on the steering column under the hood, you shood see 2 shifting levers on has a switch when shifted into reverse, my switch is stuck in the off position but i only drive it to shows and events and dont need them. Good luck.

I better get back on my medication so, I can understand this post. A 4 speed on the column or on the tree for a 71 manual 4spd..I'm going to bed right now...

If it's a 4speed, there should be nothing on the column. Automatics and three speeds had the switch on the column, on the autos it was inside the firewall, right near the base of the column. Now they're all covered!

Uh...what's the OP's user name? 71'3604speed.

Mercedes-Benzes, Citroen's had a 4 speed manual column shift...never seen a Ford truck with one.

to break up the confusion, it is a four speed on the floor.

And this morning I got them working, I found the plug in the tranny, but no wires going to it, so I spliced the wires into the main wire that goes to the fusebox.

My next little project is the carb, it needs to be rebuilt and i would rather get a new one......... any ideas, i was thinking a holly 500 cfm 2 barrel
