I recently got a 2004 F350. It looks like it has heated mirrors, but I don't see a switch to turn on the heat. Are these things heating all the time or do I have to do some wiring?

They are on all the time... There is no switch, I wish there was..

Yes it is a lovely place to live and for Canada hard to beat the climate. I'm up in Campbell River (Salmon fishing that is world class, but I get mine from the store!). Victoria is a bit more mild and drier.
They are on all the time. If you want to change that, do a search on here and you should be able to find some threads where some have changed this to run off of the upfitter switches so they can be turned on / off. Since yours is an '04 and you probably don't have the upfitters, you'd probably have to rig up your own switch but it can be done.
I was under the impression they had a antifreeze in them.... If they have power why would you want a switch to control them? I would never be able to remember to turn them on b4 I needed to. My top mirrors don't freeze in the winter but the bottons do.

I guess being able to switch them could maybe preserve the elements in warmer weather when they're not needed. Mine frost up top and bottom this time of the year. The top portion is the only heated part.
IMO though, I think Ford should have integrated a switch for them into the climate control stack so you could turn them on and off when they are needed instead of having them on all the time.

and the funny thing is that on Excursions, the mirror heat is only on when the rear defroster is activated..
From what I have read, the main reason folks have wanted a switch was because the heat will cause water spotting on the mirrors after a rain or even in the mornings from heavy dew.
I've never noticed it even after washing it in the summer, which is why I thought it was just when the defrost was on that they would be on, pretty sure my dads 08's mirrors have a separate button to activate the heated mirrors
