This is perhaps something I should look into, as I did not remove my top shroud which went around the key. Still not sure, but I do have a wee bit more slack than I did 3 yrs ago. He didn't seem to say much about the indicator being off, but he makes a great instructional video.
Correction: After watching both videos, i would say I do have slack and perhaps this is part of my issue. I can move the lower plate underneath just a minute amount, but those screws are tight! I'm thinking up above is where it is stemming from. I enjoy how well his videos are done, but I am not too sure I want to go into this without having a shop to pull into. Weather is changing and makes a whole world of difference to not be getting frost bite or rained on when you're trying to work on a rig, especially your daily driver. *sigh*

That sounds like the shifter is ok, Your problem sounds like the Shift indicator is broken. Different problem. There is a small cable that goes to the shirt indicator.
I did find the broken plastic part below, and the slack I have is nominal at this point. At least I have learned some new things. Now, I have to order the little part that is broken.
Under the dash at the bottom end of the shifter rod is a triangle shaped piece of metal that is held on by 2 torx bolts. I think they are a #25 torx size. It's up around the top of the column and is a bit hard to see but you can get to it fairly easily. Tighten those 2 bolts and the shifter will tighten right up for you.
This zeroed me in. I was trying to find the screws under the hood. LOL Mechanic told me my screws are Torx 30. So I bought a 30 bit on Amazon. We'll see; I still need to find the screws and the pix were an amazing help. Thanks. It's too dang cold here today, 5ºF.
Dang, better you than me I guess.
FYI, once you're under the dash it only take a minute or two to tighten them. So if you really need to get it done, just run the heat in the truck first.

Really? Run the heat to get warm. Why did I think of that? That's not the problem. The problem is getting under the dash with a broken back. Thanks. I need to find something to lie on or get somebody to do it for me without paying a mechanic $135 for a 5 minute job.
Alloro!! I can’t find a lot of things in the internet but for the life of me I can’t find a name for what the shifter bar is screwed into. The Cast aluminum around one of the torx screws broke and I found the corner piece and the screw laying on my floor board.

My selector arm is still in good shape. I’m trying to figure out what it bolts to. Over time I’m assuming or my father in laws sheer strength the cast aluminum that the selector arm bolted to broke. What is the cast aluminum part?
