The bolts under the dash were pretty tight. Still managed to tighten them a little more, but the shifter is still loose as can be
Pull off the plastic shroud covering the top of the column. You will be able to see two places where the shift rod is clamped down. Inspect the plastic bushings at those hold down points. I'm guessing they're either broken or have slid down the rod.
Dang it! I never even thought to ask this 2 weeks ago before I spent the $50 for a tranny shop to do the 3 minute job. He grabbed a flashlight, torx driver and layed on the drivers floor and he was done. I think it took him longer to get the tools and contort himself in position than it did to do the job. Guess I need a
Well since youre in MA 3yrs ago it woulda been about an hrs drive, however it would now be about 36 hrs. Another issue is Im not female, guess Ill have to have my wife do it then LOL
alloro u have another question on an unrelated issue. I was driving my truck tonite and i went over a bump and the dashlights went out. this has been an intermitent fault with this truck but this time when it happened it didnt blow any fuses. It smelled like to me it burned out the dimmer resistor but i wwould like a second opinion as that is a costly mistake if it isnt the dimmer. Thanks
If it's just the dash lights that went out then I would agree with your bad dimmer diagnosis. There's an outside chance that you have a loose connection in the circuit, but that would take some doing to track down if it even exists.
I have seen Ford headlight switch (incl. dimmer) connectors melt right there at the switch, so you'll want to inspect that area as well.
No need to push up, just tighten them where they are. If you find issues afterwards like say with the shifter all the way over the tranny doesn't fully engage PARK, then you might need to adjust the cable down at the tranny lever just once.
Well the car shows R but it is in park I tightend that bolt as tight as possible but moving across country in a month and dont want to have my 6ft by 12ft trailer on their and the damn thing start to role away. And my mom gets mad because she cant tell what gear she is in.
Ooooooh, so just the indicator is off? In that case, look under the dash on the side of the steering column (radio side). There you will find a little wheel to turn which adjusts the position of the pointer. If it happens to be broken, use a wire tie or something similar and pull the cable back and hold it in place with the wire tie.
