Ha! Well, it was one of those "I gotta fix that SOON as this is becoming a safety issue" items, since the parking brake is at the very end of its rope..
Which leads me to the next item on the list - "Adjust parking brake"..
thanks so much guys, just fixed my 2002 F150, both torx bolts were loose on mine. pictures were a big help on finding them, would have been much easier if I were about 50 pounds lighter though and more flexible!
Ok so I just ran into this problem on my truck only problem is one of the bolts cannot be tightened because the part with the threads has broken off. So my question is what is it that the bolts are going into and how hard is it to replace?

Unfortunately for me it's not the bolt that has broken... The actual part the bolt threads into has broken. It's the part at the end of steering column that the bolts are threading into.

You'll need a new shift tube then. I've attached a PDF for the column removal. You might be able to slide the shift tube out without having to remove the entire column from the truck. Start looking at step 19 to see the shift tube.
I have a 1997 Ford E-150 XLT Club Wagon 4.6L, looking for the shifter adjuster, very hard to get to with all the metal you have to look through. I have lost my tork 25 some where under the dash, and can't find it anywhere, but know it is there some where. Is there any easy way to try and tighten those screws? I haven't been able to get my head under by the brake to take a look, only using the touch system, and that is when I lost the tork, it is dark black in color, which makes it harder to find. I have felt ever where and haven't been able to find it yet, but will keep looking. Any suggestion? Do I need to take all that medal off under the steering coloum? I have an alarm system on the truck, and there are wires every where, which makes it even harder to see anything. I am guessing the other screw is over to the right of the one in the picture?
I still haven't ben able to get a wrench on the Screw that is hideding over to the right. I did how ever tighten up the other one, with a 3/16 Allen head. Now it works perfect. Amazing what such a little adjust meant will do. I have lost a No 25 Tork up in there, and can't find it any where.
I posted this in the wrong forum by mistake. I am leaving it because it is applicable to the lite trucks also.
Just fixed my loose shifter on my 2001 F250 4x4 260K miles. For two years now I had a problem where I sometime had to lift the shift handle for the starter to engage. With previous gen trucks that meant the electrical shift sensor was worn out. I just ignored the problem because of worse comes to worse I knew I could open the hood and jump the solenoid.
Last week I was in the bed working on my tool box. The truck was half in the garage so it was on a slight slope. The truck slipped out of park and started rolling down the driveway. I had to jump over the side of the bed and press on the brake to stop the truck. I set the parking brake and blocked the back wheels. Now I had a problem that needed immediate attention. I brought up my alldata subscription. It is USELESS in this type of situation. They have been steadily reducing content the past few years. Time to purchase real shop manuals. :-{
I got on the internet and searched for the problem. Presto there are several YouTube videos on this very subject. Easy five minute fix. I coated the bolt threads with blue locktite and tightened the dog **** out of them. Problem solved. If you have problems following the verbal directions here search for the YouTube video.
One if the many videos. This one is an excursion. Except for the knee panel the fix is the same as on the F250.
My torx screws are tight hardly any slip at all in that plate. The little, fine cable which has a little plastic wheel adjustor, that leads up to the indicator seems to be my issue. It is made of plastic or Nylon. I don't know if that is part of the problem but it looks to be broken, although it doesnt "seem" to be a deciding factor. I had to call it a day for now until I understand why all of a sudden this happened to me. P shows Reverse and on down the line. I'm wondering, if when I popped the top of the column cover off, if I didn't catch that wee cable and break that piece myself. Could be, but all indications from the videos so far, I cannot figure out why my indicator is off, literally overnight. Hmmm....
