I just want to thank you , my car would not go into drive , so i did what this forum said , it was loose tightened it up with an alan wrench my park and drive are tight and have no more problems. my mechanic did not know to do this he was going to put in a sterring colum , i can't believe how easy it was . thanks so much again

Mine just completely broke...how do you fix that? I had the torx break on it last year and just tightened the other to hold me over...guess I forgot to fix it! Both bolts are sheered off I think, do I need to drill it out and just put a bolt through?

You take a finish nail, apply a teeny tiny dab of crazy glue to the head of it, then press and hold it to the broken bolt. After letting it set for 10 minutes or so, you should be able to spin the broken part of the bolt out.

Thanks alot from me as well. I can't tell you how often this web site has saved my butt. Mine was doing the same thing as mackben. I didn't think the bolts were ever going to tighten up. I kept turning and turning. The things must have been about to fall completely out. Once again, thanks for the help.

Perfect Picture. I was able to fix it in no time. It took longer to remove and replace the panels. All told, maybe 30 minutes from beginning to end.

I've done this a few times, always solves the problem. On my 99 it was easy to do, without removing any trim panels.

yet again - you guys ROCK!

Just fixed my every other day call "honey, the expy won't start" "put it in neutral and try" "ok, thanks" problem...

turns out it really was a few loose screws...

just got a deal traded a busted 94 civic for a 97 eb expy im seeing everyone talk about a loose shifter mine is tight and wont go in park sometimes any help or try what everyone said ty

Did you actually get under there and attempt to tighten them or are you basing your conclusion on how the shifter feels from sitting in the driver's seat?

You won't feel it there, you need to look underneath at the torx bolts. When they get loose the mechanism loses throw. Most problems can't be fixed from the driver's seat.

I'm about to make a 4 hour trip to pick up a car and tow it back home. So I figured I would fix my loose shifter lever the day before the trip(today). But last night I had to move the truck, well it wouldn't start and I had forgotten about it sometimes not starting because it won't be fully in park. So I went and grabbed jumper cables cause I don't drive the truck much and I figured the battery died. Then I opened the door and reached for the hood latch, but pulled the E-brake instead.

The truck was parked in my driveway which is basically sloped up from the road 45*. Well I'm happy that the other side of the road is immediately another upward hill or I would have had a runaway truck. I tried to reach in with my foot and hit the brake, but I was unsuccessful. The truck was moving fast and luckily I didn't get anything but a bruise on my shin and forearm.

Needless to say, that dam shifter is getting fixed tonight.

Perfect! Worked exactly as suggested. Took a whole 3 minutes (2 of which were spent simply finding the bolts).. Goes into park without having to re-try a dozen times before engaging..

One more item off the "Find time to fix that" list..

See, now you are much more enthusiastic than Big Dennis who couldn't get himself out of the driver's seat to look. The forum helps those who help themselves.
