Thanks Phil. Some day I want to make up a few more and sell them. Too much going on now so no time. Here is a link to my photobucket there are a binch of pics there.
Thanks for the link to your photos. No wonder it looks so nice. That's an excellent job! A little beyond my expertise tho, as I still rely on slag to hold my welding projects together. I'll keep the concept in mind tho, as I have some spare aluminum sheeting and pop-rivets would be low and out of sight.
Has anybody used the AFE's Pro-Guard filters and/or the conical one that fits in the stock airbox?
I've done some recent analysis in the area of how air filter restriction effects engine HP and it includes among other things how much total HP is required to power the turbo so it can generate a given BP, how much of this HP is being used to "suck" a given CFM air flow through various air filters, how air filter restriction effects BP, how BP and MAT effect engine HP, and much more.
Until I get a chance to write up my analysis and post it rest assured that unless you're wanting to squeeze the last couple of HP from an engine your choice of air filter should be solely concerned with filtration. Check out this thread, especially posts #12 and #17 to see what a filter needs to do in order to protect your engine which is its intended function.
Thanks, ernesteugene (I see you addressed as 'gene' too). I read that thread (and a hundred others) in this quest. I normally stay away from oiled-gauze filters because they too often allow more dirt through. This Pro-Guard element is being substantiated as "better" with tests similar to the kind you've posted. The most important was the UOA testing done with it and other filters. Like most here, I'll forgo power for longevity.
I haven't even towed my fiver since installing the 4" exhaust. Maybe my EGTs won't even be a problem now?! Since deciding on a PSD, I've just understood that 4 things need to be done: gauges, tuner, exhaust and intake. I'm at the last step.
