"Tugly's Tamer-Tube" mod - S&B intake
I was tinkering with three possible sources of big whistle emanating from my new S&B intake, and I'm having great success with a very cheap modification:
There is a giant hole on the side of the filter housing, it faces the driver-side fender hole. I cut a hole in my old AIS housing in the same location, to improve air flow. There is a boot that is made (like a beverage cozy) to form a vent tube between the fender and the AIS housing, this prevents sucking in air from under the hood (allegedly). The hole on the side of the S&B intake is way too large to use the same boot for my old AIS, so I scanned the shop for something to suffice. I even looked in the rafters... which is where I found the answer.
3/4" plumbing pipe insulators... like a long, skinny micro-cozy. I cut a couple of lengths of this tube and wedged the short length at the bottom of the space between the filter housing and the fender. I took the longer tube and wedged it on the top three sides between the filter housing and the fender. It's cheesy, I'll grant you that... but it really muzzled the whistle under the hood. I now find the S&B almost as quiet as the AIS, with just a hint of whistle that's easily lost in the background - but it breathes better than the AIS.
I still need to solve the turbo bark and the black hole sound (all matter, light, and time being sucked into the spinning shredder), they are a different pitch and are more difficult to subdue.
I'll share a picture soon.

He has a thread a mile long on why he made the switch. It boils down to the ais not being able to flow enough air to clear up the smoke on this new injectors. Stick around a while you'll see how over **** Rich is about everything (in a good way).
