Here are some pics I took yesterday as I was inspecting these heads. The differences between them and what I did with the exhaust ports on the E6 heads to clean them up is pretty obvious. That's 0.500" lift on the intake valve on both heads.
Makes me wonder if any work was done on the "new" heads on my friend's car... they were fresh from a machine shop, then stored for a few years til he bought them...... I could just tear then off and look but not real interested in removing them again.... since the engine is pretty much reassembled.... never thought to look before as I thought they were just every day 302 heads......
Looks like the right pushrods. The slight differences in overall length is probably due to the tips being shortened due to the oil holes and chamfering. One brand might have more off the tip, but still the same working length since the whole top part of the ball is touching the socket.
Well the .060 over length rods came in yesterday, I haven't made it over to check them out yet but my friend installed one in one of the worst, "loosest", positions, and apparently the slop is gone
I hope to get over there tomorrow to finish the install and make sure the clearance is good........... then the test run...........
Thanks for the help
Figured I should add the "results" so that others that fall into this head swap know...... apparently you need the .060" longer push rods for a flat tappet style... they fit perfect :-)
So to put a rocker style, bolt type, head in place of a pedestal style, nut type, head using the original flat tappet lifters and cam.... you will need .060" over size push rods... your results may vary
Thanks again for all the help.
