How to wire up Jeep wiper motor using stock switch??

I am in the process of wiring my 55 F100 using the EZ wiring kit. I have most of the wiring completed and am working on the wipers. As suggested by several forum members, I have purchased a Jeep wiper motor from my local salvage yard (1991 Jeep commanche) and would like advice on how to wire up the motor to the stock wiper switch? The jeep wiring harness has 5 wires (blue, black, white, and grey). I believe the stock wiper switch has the following labels: A, B, F, and P. Any help is appreciated.

Respectfully,

Lance

I don't think yoare going to be able to do it. Yo will probably need the switch from the Jeep, but I could be wrong. Wiper switches are on eof two in the 6Volt trucks that do not do well in 12 volt conversions - other one is th ehearter motor switch. Here is a thread with pictures of the switch I posted a few weeks ago:

Good Luck,

You can go to Midfifty's website and find thier part install links. Look for the wiper motor install and they have the schematics and wiring id for a number of motors / switches. I bought a motor from them but was not able to use it (Fiberglass cab) and I remember the instructions had all that info on it. If you can't find it let me know and I will hunt my old instructions for you.

The problem isn't the wiring folks, it's using the stock 55 6 volt switch with a 12 volt motor on what I'm assuming is going to be a 12 volt conversion. There are points or resistors in the 6V switches that aren't compatible with the lower amperage per watt that the 12 volt system and motor will use.

If you look at the posts they all either have 6 volt motors with 6 volt switches, or 12 volt motors with 12 volt switches - irregardless of what vehicle they come out of. If you want this to work, probable the closest you are going to be able to get with the Jeep motor, and not use the Jeep switch (which is what you should do) is buy a 56 electric wiper switch and hope that the thing will park correctly.

Chances are if the Jeep switch is not part of the signal switch, and is of the dash variety, the **** will spin off and you can put a 55 **** on it and no one will know the difference. Or you can buy a generic 12V replacement switch with the same number of leads as the motor.

Thumbs down

Jules you are right since he is using the ez wiring that meant he going with 12v and yes he would have to find a 12v switch with that motor. Midfifty had very good diagrams about the park location on thier 12v switch which could get him into the ball park. He would for sure have to swap out his old **** and try to get his bezel to work. A trip to a old skool part store may have the cure.

Julie, LastChance56, and Old F1-

Thank you for the replies and information (web links). I suspected that I wouldn’t be able to use the stock switch, but now it has been confirmed. As suggested, I will check out Midfifties website for wiring diagrams and give them all call first thing Monday morning to see if they have a 12 volt switch that will work with my jeep motor. According to the web links sent by OldF1, Jeep and GM are very similar so if Midfifties doesn’t have anything that will work, I should be able to find a switch in the salvage yard that will work. When I find my solution, I will post it for everyone to see.

Thanks again.

EZ wire sells switches that are compatable with their harness. What about buying their wiper switch and disguising it with your '55 wiper sw. ****?

FddysixF-

Excellent suggestion. I did not even think about contacting EZ wiring about a switch. Thanks,

Lance

Solution

I want to post the solution for wiring a Jeep wiper motor using the EZ wiring harness. Before I do so, I would like to thank Cowman, Lastchance56, Julies Cool 1, Old F1, and FiddysixF for their help.
<O</O
As stated above in my original post, I found a 1991 Jeep Comanche wiper motor in a local salvage yard ($20). I mounted the Jeep wiper motor onto my stock wiper linkage as Cowman shows in his gallery (https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/displayalbum.php?&userid=105685&albumid=7934).<O</O
<O</O

Next, I purchased a Cole Hersee 75228-04 wiper switch ($16) from Redden Marine (http://www.reddenmarine.com/site/new-detail.cfm?id=CHR7522804). The Cole Hersee wiper switch has five terminals. They are labeled: 1) L, 2) H, 3) P, 4) B1 and 5) B2 (B1&2 are linked terminals). The Jeep Cherokee wiper motor has five wires. They are: 1) black, 2) blue, 3) white, 4) red, and 5) grey.
<O</O
To wire the switch, the following wires should be connected:
<O</O
Black to Ground source<O</O
Blue to P <O</O
White to L<O</O
Red to H<O</O
Grey not used<O</O
EZ wiper wire from harness goes to B1<O</O
<O</O

With a little filing of the shaft on the Cole Hersee wiper switch, the original Ford **** can be used giving the stock appearance. In closing, it is my hope that the directions above with help others as this forum has helped me.
