Is this a good pump? While I'm in there, I plan on buying this and this... should I also buy this and these or is the DIY approach more cost effective? Anything else I should be adding into the mix, except for maybe one of these? I'd also need a mount for that last one... where to put it?
Chase I dont have that much tied up in my coolant filter setup. I had the left over hose from the Hutch mod and I had a buddy get me the filter base at his cost which wasnt alot cheaper than what it was originally but every little bit helps. I cant remember the exact total but it wasnt near that. I didnt even put any ballvalves in my lines and I dont lose all that much coolant when I change the filters. I'm on my third filter now since I put it on back in the spring and it's about to have to be changed. I would check around on prices of the pieces seperately before I commited to that one. Not trying to cut money from the vendors, just trying to look at this as being wallet friendly in these Eco times. Oh yeah, I fabbed my own bracket outta stainless steel.
Agreed the Airtex Pump, diesel site 203 T-stat and housing along with a dual alt upper radator hose and a lower radiator hose will set you up. If you go with Rotella ELC you really won't need a coolant filter from what I have read around.
I think the filter is to get the sand and crap that's in there from the factory(from the mold when they cast the block)??? It does do it too. I cut the first filter I put on mine apart and it was loaded.

That's right. The "sand" that people think is from the casting is just silicate dropout from the green coolant. Not sure if the gold has the problem or not, since it's a hybrid-OAT with a little SCA and OAT. If you keep the green, go with a filter. If you convert to OAT (ELC), I wouldn't bother. Just my (not so) humble opinion.

That's the setup right there. I bought that pump from that same sellor. Great to deal with, so I'd recommend them. Also he's right about the ELC - no SCAs means no flakes in the passages to worry about so no filter necessary. Higher initial cost but then you pretty much don't have to worry about it. If you do the flush, be sure to get 4 gallons of the ELC concentrate. You'll be sure to have some distilled water left in there, so if you put the 4 gallons of concentrate in and then top off with distilled water, you'll be sure to have a 50/50 mix. Can't go wrong that way in my book.
Cool, Thanks for clearing that up for me on the "sand" Joe. My truck had the gold colored ELC and I went back with another ELC in it but I still get the "sand-looking" stuff in my filter.
