Module problems?

I've been having problems with my 98 Navigator 4x2. From what i read online it sounds like its a common problem with Ford trucks, windows dont work, no interior lights, no defogger, or windshield wipers, etc..

I believe my fuseblock on the driver side or the general electronic module (i guess thats it?) or both are corroded. The problem is I need step by step instructions on how to get to them quickly and easily as possible. dont know if they can be cleaned or if they need to be replaced. I can c around my windshield wher it looks like water got in.

I bought this stupid Haynes manual for it and it tells u nothing! Thanks for any assistance rendered.

Replace them or have them replaced. Dealer did mine 2 years ago for approx. $800.

You may want to start by trying a can of spray contact cleaner and giving them a good soaking then pull each fuse one at a time and replace it. Take each plug and disconnect it and spray the socket and plug with cleaner. Use some canned air or compressed air to blow the crud out of any connections.

I have the same problem with my 97 F150 4x4. I have been driving with a bad heater core which may have blown something else. The windows, mirrors, interior lights, and wipers seem like a fuse problem. I'll look into the GEM thing.

The GEM has to be programmed by the dealer.

Thanks, that is very helpful information. I took a blow dryer to the GEM and that seemed to solve everything except my passenger window gets ine roll down and one roll up a day. I think some mosture is still getting to it.

I had the same window not working issue but with the driver's side. It would not roll down, but if I applied power directly to the motor it went down fine. I could then push up and the window would go up normally, but again would not go back down. This happened after a good rain or a car wash. So I figured my windshield was leaking water into the GEM, which would dry out after a few day and the window then worked fine. Thanks to an (ahem, cough, cough) impact on my windshield, the insurance company paid for a brand new one. No more leak and no more window problem.
