I've done some searching on the forum threads and haven't been able to find the answers to the questions i've been looking for. It seems that my GEM module got fried from a leak in my windshield. which seems to be a common problem. I have a Ford P131 Gem version B Module in my 1999 F350 diesel 4x4. The contacts that come from the two large plugs on the back of the fuse panel were corroded from the water. should the fuse panel be replaced with the gem module, or could the contacts be cleaned on the panel and just the module replaced? also can the module be tested? and does the new module need to be reprogrammed before installing it in my truck? any info would be greatly appreciated.
I believe the module has to be programmed before you use it. Look through the OASIS thread at the top of this forum, there is an "as built" link I put in there, which tells you what codes are programmed into your GEM I believe. Take that data to a Ford dealer and they can do it. You MIGHT have to have the module installed in the truck, but not sure about that. Call the dealer first.
As for the corroded contacts, well, if they can be cleaned up nice and shiny, leave it. Otherwise, sounds like it's much easier to change out the connectors.
