Ive spent some time searching today about slip joints and I can tell you know more than a little. I have a pretty simple question for you. I greased my slip joint today and have successfully got rid of the take off clunk. However I now have a vibration that starts at 55 and levels off around 65 or 70. I just replaced the back tires before I greased it should I have them rebalanced. Could I have missed a spline or 2 while lining up the shaft? I'm lost as to why this has popped its head up. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

It is possible that the driveshaft is off a spline or two. In a nutshell, just make sure the universal joints are in line with each other. In other words, make sure that the u-joints are all turned the same way. All the cups should be in a line. It is possible that the back portion of the driveshaft could be off 180 degrees. When the driveshaft is balanced, the 2 pieces were put together at the slip yolk a certain way. It is quite possible that the u-joints could be in line but that you have the shaft installed 180 degrees from the balance point. Now, having said that, after checking the allignment of the u-joints, I would check the tires next.
