Hey folks, hope the new year is getting off to the right start for everyone.
Finally got the truck lowered, another couple of boxes ticked off on the check sheet of proposed mods
Looking at engine/trans conversions now. I'm not madly bothered about going for a 302 or 351, but would like to fit an injected lump and would ideally like to use an AOD trans. I'm toying with buying an entire donor vehicle as prices of American vehicles over here have dropped off. Would an E150 of any given year(s) provide all of the answers? Do they share the same basic chassis layout with F trucks? Any answers and even questions welcomed as usual
I think the vans do have the rear sump oil pans. If they do, the engine will drop right in. The wiring may be a little different here and there, they seem to have their own wiring diagrams for the efi,and not grouped together with the trucks.
Thanks for that, what about the AOD? I don't want to run any V8 through my C5, it has seen better days and won't take the extra power I wouldn't imagine for a second. Do the trucks and the vans share the same components in terms of shifters etc?
I would say no on the shifters. But the basic engine/trannies should fit. It's the small stuff like shifter linkages and throttle cables, and other odd brackets and stuff that will be different.
You won't find an AOD behind a 351 stock.. unless you find an '80's police Crown Vic, but that was carbed too. But the AOD will bolt right up and perform well as long as it is in good working order, has a shift kit, and you get a 28oz AOD flexplate. If the 351 gets hopped up have the AOD updated as well.
