I've been looking for the last 6 months for a trans brake for my E4OD tranny in my 95 F-150. First off, the trans runs great, no slipping, no problems on the road or off. I want a transbrake for the tranny to help me get better reaction times when I mud bog. Most of the chebbie and older Ford guys run them in their trannys and get better times due to the instant wheel spin they get from using the transbrake. Second, I have searched and haven't really found out an answer.
So here's my delima.... I have found transbrake valve bodies for the c-4, c-6, AOD and AODE trannies. Which would be be the best to swap in and not have too many issues with my computer. The truck is still occassionally driven on the street during hunting season and one in a while around town, so I'd like to keep the spedo and drivability of the OD.
Also, the truck has a BW1356 transfer case, so if I did the swap, would I need a new case as well or would it bolt up to the new tranny?
I've never tried this swap. The least hard one would be the AOD. There is no computer controls for that one, so all you need to make the trans work is a throttle valve cable. Now somehow you have to make it EXACTLY right, or it's going to burn some clutches. If you swapped your PCM for one from a manual trans truck it should work fine.
A C6 would be easier, but you wanted OD. A C6 doesn't have one. You could add an aftermarket overdrive behind the C6, but that's going to cost an additional $2500-$3000.
As for the transfer case question, I have no idea.
Duh, I never thought about swapping a pcm from a manual trans truck. I am going to have to look in the scrap yards for a PCM from a 95. The only bad part about that is having to go and get it programmed again for my motor.
Thanks for the help. I'll look into that and see what comes of it.....
I had my PCM flashed for work that was done to my motor when I had it tuned, so that is what I was referring to. I might just get a JET chip instead and be done. I figured the harness would be the same.
