I posted earlier finished front brake job . I was able to get the steering wheel off and the spacer behind it.
Question: after removing c-clip how much pressure is on the spring behind the clip? I got both upper bearings before the dealer closed today.
I'm begining to wonder what kind of job this is going to be, I thought the bearing was bigger and easier to put in
any details on doing this job ???

I need to get my truck back together today! any one have any knowledge of replacing the upper bearing on the steering column?
The steering wheel is off ,plastic spacer is off I'm looking at the c-clip and the spring under it. I thought this would be a quick fix but am wondering how much more in depth this is .
Anyone know...

got c-clip off removed the spring top of outer bearing was in pieces,I moved the shaft around and the ball bearings fell out, the few that were left. I determined I have the small diameter bearing but it seems like part of the old bearing is still in the aluminum housing because I see like a cup where the bearings ride.
Am I correct ? This is part of the old bearing and needs to be removed, so the new one will go in flush?
Yes that sounds right. Its a real pain to replace those bearings. When I did mine I took a small drill bit and drilled in at an angle in two spots to get a hole to get under the bearing and pop it out. No much fun but neither is taking the whole column apart to do it the "correct" way!
I drilled a hole and popped out the old bearing ,but... started putting steering wheel on and it feels sloppy
Should I torque it down and the slop-looseness will go away??? I returned the puller, wheel isn't on all the way just finger tight it felt good when I grabbed the shaft before the wheel went on
