Pyro and DP-Tunes

Ok, my pyro currently reads post turbo on the downpipe. I've heard this isn't the best spot but that is where it was when I got the truck.

My questions are...with my DP Tuner on 80e, a short burst of WOT probably hits 700 degrees. The same on 140 smoke hits about 900 best I can tell (hard to look at my below dash gauges but that's another topic).

My questions are...1) do you think these temps sound about right for those tunes and 2) how much 'off' are they compared to a up-pipe measurement location? I've heard that I could be measuring about 200 degrees low.

Cruising at 70 in stock or 80e....I'm measuring about 350 degrees.

Comments appreciated.

The variance between pre and post-turbo temps can be anywhere from 100-500 degrees. There's no linear correlation between the two temps due to engine load, altitude, boost, exhaust backpressure, RPM's, etc etc etc. So if your post-turbo pyro reads 900 degrees, then at the manifold it could be anywhere from 1000-1400 degrees.

I would look into moving the pyro sensor to the driver's side exhaust manifold so you can have pre-turbo temps.

I would move it pre-turbo also. Those temps sounds low to me.

Thanks for the tips. I'm trying to decide on new gauges and trying to determine if I can use the same tranny/pyro probes or not. Especially if not, I could leave the current one and just install the new one in the right spot.

Hey Eddie....did you get that DP installed yet for those SS injectors?

Pretty much what Pocket said.
I moved my around with one of my old exhausts since it came with the bung on the downpipe. Anywhere from 50-450* cooler Post turbo compared to pre turbo on my truck. Also, Post Turbo reacts much slower than pre turbo.

Can't really set a max safe temp post turbo.

Good deal...let us know if it solve that idle issue (I'm sure it will). You'll be happy with it for sure...first time I hit it (on 80e) I said 'whoa....so that is what this thing will do with a little fuel put to it' Been hard to drive normally ever since.

If it were me I would just leave the post turbo and add the pre turbo. New egt gauge will have a new probe. Then ya got both!!!
