Guys,
while I was driving home from work yesterday my Battery indicator on my dash aluminates and it's still aluminating. I was told by my ford dealer a week ago that my Hub assembly need tobe replace. Will this cause the battery light to stay on? The light does go out when I'm driving and then come back on when I slow down are stop. What should do?
I did the voltage test on the battery and they appeared to be ok. When I disconnected each battery the truck keep running, but with both battery disconnect at the same time the truck would turn off. I also disconnect the wire harness on top of the alternator and checked the voltage and it appeared to be ok as well, egine on or off. If I would of to replace the alternator, what would be the steps in accomplishing this task? It look too easy!. This problem with the battery light only happen when I'm parked or slowing down. My is trying to force to take it to the "dealer".
At idle with the GPR off you should be getting 13+ volts. Startthe truck and put the headlights on does the voltage drop. A bad alternator has been know to take out the batteries in a very short time.
the hardest part of a new alt for our trucks is if the pulley has to be changed. remove the serp belt, then the connector you already removed then the one larger wire at the rear of the alt. then the bolts that hold it on the bracket. remove the alt. re-install is the opposite. its not hard at all. if you need to replace the pulley and air impact or an electric impact gun is way easier.
you remove the serp belt by using a ratchet to pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt, then pull the belt off the alt pulley. one person can do it but if you have two then its more fun...lol
its always more fun with two people.
