Guys,
while I was driving home from work on friday my Battery indicator on my dash aluminates and it's still aluminating. It would stay off when I'm driving and then come back on when I slow down or stop. I try to start my truck today and it took about 10 seconds for the engine to start. I have a Six Gun installed on the truck and it flash an error code: ICPO err 5 ( Detected an internal error in the "injection control pressure (ICP) output circuit". What do you guys think this means? I think it could be the Alternator going bad!
First you should check all battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight. How old are the batts? You can have them load tested at auto parts store. Might be alternator is going out. You can measure voltage at the batts with the truck running. I thought alt should be putting out somewhere near 13.5-14.0 volts. Hope this helps.
I don't think the battery light got anything to do with the ICP sensor. I thinking that because the Alternator is going bad the ICP sensor isn't getting the amount of needed power, so that mean the six gun would detected an error in the ICP circuit. What do you guys think? My only other option would taking it to the dealership and have them look at it.
Your alternator is putting out a low voltage when at idle, when the truck revs up the alternator spins quicker and put out more. Change it out before you take out our batteries.
I can get a alternator for $200 new! I would have some difficulty with the installation.
I got mine at AZ for 209 new and installed it in less than 10 minutes. 1/2 breaker bar on the tensioner, take belt off the alt, take connector off, take the bolt off the back of alt, remove 3 mounting bolts, insert new alt, and do the previous steps in reverse!
