as some of you may know, my rear tank has been rusted through for over a year. i was curious on if i could get it welded up if i pulled the tank. and when i put it back in since i aint ran it for so long can i just fill it up and switch over?
there may be nothing to weld to. pull it out take a look. not many people want to weld on a fuel tank, even if you say it only had diesel in it. pull it out ,take a look , its only along for the ride anyway.
Depends on the hole, but that stuff is like a miracle in a tube sometimes.
Most people I know who do anything to tanks will braise them, not weld. *shrugs*
Not many people can torch weld anymore I don't think.
At least its a diesel tank though, dont have to worry as much about fires.
My dad said when they welded on gas tanks, they would rinse them out a bunch of times and then fill them with water even after washing when they braised on them.
My dad would add carbontetrachloride to the tank and circulate compressed inside the tank and then braze away. No fires, on explosions. Carbontet has been outlawed because when it burns it releases phosgene (Spelling) gas.
if ya cant JB it F*C* it haha.
id try to clean it up really good and JB weld it it. or if you dont wanna pull the tank they make some stuff called seal all. i have used it on little 5Hp honda motors with the steel tanks and she works pretty good.
but the bronco tank mod would be pretty shweet to do also.
