Charcoal canister hookup

I am wanting to hook up the charcoal canister on my EFI swap. Does there need to be a line welding on to my tank for the hose from the canister and if so how far down in the tank should it go?

Thanks.

Not far, it should be on the top and is just for fumes so liquid should not come in contact with the fittting.

I wonder if there is some type of one way valve in the hose?

Thanks

I don't think so. I have never seen one.

No one way valve in the hose. First use of this setup was in 1970. The in cab fuel tank has two ports where the lines feed from. The steel lines makes a U shaped loop just above the tank. Two steel lines feed from the tank, one each loop around each side of the in-cab fuel tank, go through the floor pan, and feed their way to the canister alongside each frame rail. There is a fuel pump hookup also. The cannister location is on the right inner frame rail ahead of the front crossmember. If you know someone who has a 1964/72 Ford truck parts catalog, the entire system is pictured in section 90, page 44.

The in cab tanks were different with this setup, so you will prolly need to change the tank to on from a 70/74. The tanks are basically the same thru 1974, but are 19 gallons, 1 1/2 gallons more than the 1964 tank has. Only one fitting is different to install the later tank. The gas tank sending unit is the same for all 1961/77 F Series.

I am using an 89 grand marquee for parts. I was looking at the manual last night and it mentioned some type of valve inside the tank in case of rollover it shut off the gas from traveling up the canister line. Since my tank is behind the seat I wonder if I would need to worry about that?

Nah, if you roll it over, just put your finger over the hole

Just kidding. It is a check valve that may be in the fitting that is in the donor tank.
