I am new to this forum, I spend most of my time on the Diesel forum. I have a question , my son has a '04 E150 Custom with rear heat. He is not getting any heat to the rear. Has anyone had this trouble before and what are some of the problem areas? Thanks in advance.
I also am new (very) to this forum and as you can see, I haven't made but a few posts. I've only owned a Ford van a couple of months after driving Dodges for over 30 years.
I don't have any idea if your 04 is anything like my 00, but I can tell you what I did to activate the rear heat. The flapper door that separates the AC from the heat was stuck in the AC position. I removed the fan motor in the rear air unit and let the flapper door drop down to open up the path to the rear heater core. The previous owner showed me this trick because he didn't want to spend the $130 to get it fixed correctly.
I now have more than enough heat in this teen degree weather.
I'm sure someone else will chime in that has more knowledge than me which is very little since I'm a new Ford owner.
Seizing on this clue, I'd suggest that you 1st determine why NO "heat to the rear" or at least confirm this symptom.

The 4 long steel heat/AC tubes that run the length of an Econoline frame are well known for rust/leaks. Since they're a PITA to replace its common to simply bypass them, eliminating rear heat. The easy way to check is (after running long enough to circulate hot water) to feel the lines behind rear wheel well to confirm hot water is coming & returning from the rear heater core. Only if you confirm the core is passing hot water should you procede to open the rear unit to check the vacuum motor & "flapper door". Often the problem is merely a split vacuum hose connection.
Club Wagon does give good advice. I should have stated in my previous post that I could feel the heat on the heater hoses to the unit and contcated the previous owner about it. As I stated earlier, I am only a 2 month owner of a Ford van, and it will probably take me a few years to learn all the tricks.
