I know it has been asked before but no one has given a definite answer. Is there a way to turn off the key chime? Not talking about the beltminder. My dealer is going to charge $80 to turn it off for me.
I have a 2010. For the last 8 months I have been asking them to turn it off. They kept saying they couldn't. Today I phrased it a different way. I told them the key chime quit work and ask them if they could fix it. They said they could. I told them that would be great. If you can turn it on that means you can turn it off (checkmate). He said if they can do it with a computer it will be $40. If they have to go into the console it will be $80. It would seem to me they would know up front how to do it.
Can I ask the dumb question as to why you need/want it turned off? Just curious.
Some people like to leave their keys in the ignition, perhaps if they are parking it inside or just running in to their house or whatever. I have worked in lawn care/landscaping and the keys for our trucks never left the ignition unless they were parked outside overnight and nothing was more annoying than the "key in ignition" chime of an 04 PSD while you're cleaning out the inside of the truck with the door open. And Ford is not like GM where you can just pull the key out slightly so that it will stay in the ignition but not turn on the key chime, the key chime will turn on as soon as you slightly push the key in.
Got my truck back from the dealer today. They would not turn off the door chime. They said it is a federal mandated safety factor that they cannot turn it off. Makes a lot of since that they let you turn it off for the beltminder.
I cut the black and purple wire on my 06 PSD it was under the dash. It was nice not having that sound going off when you had the door open and the key off.
