XJ, 2004 Lariat SC purchased 2 months ago. IWE issue intermitently since. First off here is what has been replaced. Previous owner last sept had ford replace passenger side actuator.Previous owner says he replaced solenoid.I have slip from ford showing Actuator replacement.Car on jacks engine started and both driver and passenger move freely and are not engaging front axles in 2wd. I then found bad check valve at the solenoid, replaced that. Still getting noise here and there, grinding scraping IWE sound and when it happened yesterday (within 10 mins of one another) the voltage gauge spiked to 3/4 and check charging system came on. What is the relation between IWE sound and volts going up? also when the noise starts I try to put into 4x4 hi and it will not go into 4x4 HI and light will not turn on dash. when not having issue 4x4 works great. I just ordered a new solenoid with cover. I would greatkly appreciate any insight you may have. Thank you in advance

XJ, can you perform the 4X4 testing with the entire truck on floor jacks? 2004 F150, I tested everything as you described. Everything works to the hubs. Passenger wheel is grinding, driver wheel will spin if you turn the steering wheeel side to side.

Hello xj. I'm from NC also, well actually Mt. Jackson. Could you hook me up as to where to buy the two check valves for the IWE system ? found the one behind the battery to be shot so i'll replace both of the ones in the system. Going to be replacing both accuators also, pass side toast and drivers side seems ok but will replace that one also. Already changed the solonoid. Thanks in advane for any help. Dave

Hey XJ your posts really helped me out a couple years ago. I replaced the IWE's and the vacuum hoses on my f150 2006 from reading your post. I don't think i ever thanked you for all the info. I'm not far from you i live out in princton. Now i have a problem with my daughters explorer. I'm pretty sure its the clutch in the transfer case BW4411. do you know any one it town or close by that works on them?
Thanks alot for all your info..

I know it has been a while since someone has asked you about the IWE system, but I was wondering if you could help me out. I have had a number of things replaced but my 4x4 hi drive light is on and I'm not totally sure that the 4WD is not trying to engage. My mechanic has already replaced the solenoid and the left front actuator. He claims it is fixed but the light is still on and I'm not sure. Is there something I can do or should I take it to a dealer instead of my own mechanic. My mechanic also had to replace both struts and springs on the front and both front brake pads. He also replaced the spider gears in the rear differential. All of this and my truck only has 50,000 miles on it. Thanks for reading and thank you foe the help.

(f150 2007 xlt 4.6L) Hey xjcamaro89. Whats up, i have a problem and from reading about some of the posts you know what your talking about, hope you can help! I've been pretty lucky with my truck, so far. So I washed my undercarriage of my truck with a pressure washer and I drove it about an hour later and noticed that the 4x4 high light was on so i turned it to 2wd. Sadly the light wouldnt turn off but it was in 2 wheel drive. Now when i switch it back to 4 high i don’t hear the hubs locking and the light is still on and its still in 2wd. Also my speedo stopped working as well at the same time... could they be related?
Could it be a loose connection on the bottom of the truck? or did i maybe blow a fuse? I did check the fuses that were related to the 4x4 (i checked the main fuses).

I just replaced the IWE solenoid on my 2005 fx4, but the sound is still there. It sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a bike tire... The strange thing is it only happens when it is cold(about 25 or less). When I put it in 4wd it stops immidately stops. If I take it out of 4wd it starts back within mile or so. What else should I check?? It makes no sense to me what it only happens when it is cold.....Any ideas? Thanks!

I need your advice on a IWE system on my 2005 F150 on the thread you did in March. I loaned a freind my truck and he accidently put it in 4WL and drove very fast and spun a bearing in my motor. My warranty replaced the motor but did he damage my 4w drive system. When in 4H I turn the the wheel sharply left the engine starts running rough. I shut it off and restart and it is fine. When in 4L the engine stalled 3 times. What would cause these engine problems when in 4WD?

    Thank you,
