Hey is there a trick to replacing the cps it seems as though i am able to adjust the timing because its a little loose on the bolt. i'm able to retard ant advance timing should i be able to do this? Any tips or tricks?
You cant adjust timing by rotating the cps. If the cps is sticking in its bore and you want to remove it, try prying/walking it out with a screwdriver.
ya i know about getting it out of the bore but where it bolts to the block there is a little wiggle room and i can move it closer or farther from the harmonic balancer and it alters the timing
I think you are getting a bad and good CPS signal confused with timing adjustment. If the CPS is to far away from the cam gear it will have a weak, erratic signal. You should tighten the bolt to get the best possible signal from it. It counts the holes (windows) on the cam gear and looks for smaller hole. The smaller hole tells the PCM where the cam is in relation to the firing order thus teling it which cylinder to fire and when (timing) which is controlled by the PCM.
