Was a factory tach installed in the 95/96 E series vans? I have a 95 E350 bus conversion and would like to get rid of the aftermarket tach sitting in the middle of the dash that a prevous owner install.
i fit an ~3" VDO tach just to the right of the left side (driver's) dash vent - so it is left of the speedo. if you can deal with a 2 1/8" tach, order the aftermarket Superduty upper steering column cover that has a gauge pod built in - slips right over the factory piece. i did and use it for my second battery system voltmeter (i run 2x200A alt setup) but you could use it for the tach and not have to cut the dash panel insert. i would have but i happened to have the tach and not much $$.
While at the junkyard the other day, I was courious about the F-series cluster of that age range. The physical cluster's are diffrent but the wireing harness were the same to both E and F series trucks from what I can see. I might try to modify a F-series to fit into the van dash. At least the POSD speedo's are the same, may have to rewire the connectors for compatiblity.
Any thoughs and if possable a wire schematic for the 95/96 E350 van with RV package?

Hows the 2nd alt installed? On my E350 Bus, it has the rear Carrier AC unit that is ran off a 2nd A/C compresser with the Alt/smog pump belt. I noticed when all A/C units(cab and rear) are on, thats one heck of a draw even for the 130A alt thats installed! 3 condenser fans for the rear unit alone pull close to 50A !! Would like to install a 2nd Alternator to charge up the coach Batt and run the rear AC unit fans. My Dad also wants to know as he wants a 2nd Alt for his motorhome too.
I found an F series gauge cluster w/ tach on e-bay for $50.00...these bolt right up to our bezel....the wiring dia. I got on-line....you have to switch some wires around but it is well worth it to have the factory look
Hey, I forgot to mention I pulled out my 5.8 gas and dropped in the 7.3 PowerStroke Diesel
I used 2 sources... Wirediagram.com...not very good
then I used Alldata...but you need to have an account....($24.95)
I used 1995 E-350 ( my van & the year of my donor van)
Then I used 1995 F-250 (the year of my cluster W/ tach)
My new "tach" cluster was from a standard trans. truck....easy to convert (1min) with shift indicater from YOUR cluster.
Diagram states "gas & diesel"...cluster must be right for diff. RPM range and fuel gauge markings...Tach is powered off of ECU or PCM (forgot, been a while) Also states "8 cyl. only"
Once you learn to use AllData it is incredible the amount of info
I could fax you what I have if the years are the same, good luck,
Al
