Now going on almost 3 1/2 years and never had any issues with the swap. The only problem I had was the PSOM had a capacitor leak acid onto the pc board. Fix it and all's good!
I have a 95 e150 and I believe the PSOM went out on me - no mileage, no speedo, tranny does not shift properly.
I want to upgrade to a tach dash while I am in the dash.
Will a 1996 F150 instrument panel with a tach work in my 1995 (obviously with the wiring changes).
Thanks,
Jason
When installing a F-series cluster in to a E-series, just repin the van's harness to the "YEAR" F-series cluster you have. Also you will have to add the tach signal wire and hook it to the neg side of the ignition coil.

First, good on you for coming back and updating your thread!
Second, out of curiosity, on the 2002 7.3L Powerstroke diesel there is no ignition coil. Is there a work around so I could install a tachometer?
Hey to one and all.......
Glad to hear all is well with the tach conversion..........in cleaning out the garage about a month ago I found my fully converted back-up cluster...I just could not bear to throw it in the trash but the van is long gone to Arizona so.....
To update...the 1995 was built with 2 donor vehicles , the rusted out Quigley, and a 7.3 mini school bus....when that sold I built a 2000 7.3 with a 2009 Superduty front end...3.55's...I'm using a tuner for RPM, EOT, TOT, and EGT...three seperate gauges for boost, water temp.(205 stat) and finally a FUEL PRESSURE gauge...boosted to 70 psi...very important on the 7.3...I'm replacing fuel filters about twice as much but it's worth it to keep those injectors 'wet'
Gotta go to work..................Al

Everything you have done, I want to do. Please post up pictures in your own thread!
Wow, this tread is still alive. Wish I knew where the van I had was. Lol
The guy who bought it from me in 2010 just paid me the last $440 he owed me a few months ago.
OK,I know this is an old thread,but...If I get this right, this is about putting a F series cluster w/tach into an E series. What about an E series instrument cluster with tach ( 04 and newer) into an older (03 and older) E series? Has anyone done this?

I have not messed with any years newer than the 92 to 97 trucks. Not sure if you can swap between years. Most newer trucks use the CAN buss to get speed, tach ect from the ECU. So compatibility issues will be a problem.
If you do try it out, post the results! This is how this thread started.

I did this swap sucessfully using a later '90's F-Series into my '03 E-Series. Physically they fit with a minor modification to the mounting tabs on the cluster housing so it fits into the E-Series dash space.
I don't know this swap could be done from the electrical or wiring aspect if the donor cluster has the digital odometer. For me and without detailed internal schematics of the two types of clusters & odometers it would be a trial and error thing. With the digital odometer types the chassis wiring connectors are completely different which might be an added complication to this type of swap.
Wiring isn't overly complicated assuming you have a few things first: EVTM diagrams of the donor cluster and the E-Series you're swapping it into. Its fairly important you have a good working knowledge of re-pinning the Ford factory connectors. Since I already own all the tools necessary for terminating wires the EVTM's were vital to me. With all that in hand its a relatively simple process changing the chassis wiring to work with the donor cluster.
Personally I agonized over the pre-planning to an extreme which in itself took me about 6 weeks on and off. Once I was sure I could do it quickly it went fairly quickly and worked perfectly first time. I couldn't be without use of the '03 as its my work van---- doing this without major issues was a priority. Any final tweaks that could be done at a later date wouldn't be a problem, there were one or two but nothing that affected proper operation of the new cluster or how it interacted with the PCM.
It can be done and very cool but not sure it's really really worth the effort; YMMV naturally. This certainly isn't a how-to post and no I didn't keep extensive notes. This link does contain my final wiring configuration in actual images and marked up schematics from my personal EVTM's.
