Hi everyone. I'm new here and I've got a "restoration" question. I have a 1979 F150 Ranger XLT 4x4. The interior door panels have been replaced at some point in the truck's life, but the original vinyl door panel inserts are gone. My question is, which inserts are correct for the Ranger XLT trim, the solid woodgrain w/ the narrow chrome band around it, or the 2-tone insert w/ the narrow woodgrain and chrome band? I've been able to locate replacements for both, but I don't really want to buy any until I know which ones are correct. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks for the welcome first off. Second, as far as the panels I'm thinking of (the woodgrain or the 2-tone), I'm only talking about the upper insert behind the window crank and following above the armrest. I'm not actually talking about the panel as a whole. I should've been more specific. My fault, sorry. I'm just not sure of which ones are correct for my truck as I have seen both in these trucks.
As far as the 2tone panels, I saw a set on a truck in a junkyard a few days ago, and the vinyl (not hard plastic like the rest of the door panel) insert was white with a green square behind the window crank on a green door panel. The interior doorpanels on my truck now are just the basic plastic panel with a molded in "egg-crate" design on the upper part of the panel were the vinyl insert would otherwise be.
Thats one of the door panel styles I was talking about. There's also one where the woodgrain in the first picture of the door panel is white with the small "square" insert being color keyed with the rest of the interior and there is one where the whole insert is woodgrain without any "square" patch behind the window crank.
Thats a factory look that Tony posted pics of. I think it was a deluxe package or something. Those inserts will have the "two tone colors" or a solid woodgrain. I've seen others that have a different vinyl look also.
Jamie those red & white panels are 78' 79' lariat panels
The all wood grain insert are 78' 79' XLT panels
Ive owned both trucks And worked for a Ford dealership in 79'
Those red & white panels were around in 76' 77' but only came in tan & brown on the XLT luxuris package this was the pre lariat package not many of those trucks around.
Hope this helps.
78-79 Ranger XLT panels with the woodgrain looked like this:
Some 77 and earlier XLT's used a pleated cloth insert from what I understand. Also Ben the 2 tone non padded door panels were used on some base Ranger models as well, it did not always mean they were painted by a previous owner but some could of been.
I really appreciate the help guys! I thought it might be the woodgrain, but I really wasn't sure. Now at least I know which panels to get. I'm trying to restore my truck little by little and every little detail helps.

Yeah, I just bought a 78 F-100 Ranger (non-XLT) and it has the two tone door panels (non-woodgrain) in the same two-tone pattern shown in the woodgrain ones above. They are tan inside brown. Rest of the interior is brown with some woodgrain on the dash.
