The CAT store in Omaha is massive. Last year they had a play day for us diesel students. We went down there and toured and then got to mess around on some equipment.

I think the closest thing to an adult playground with that equipment is working for a dealership. You gotta test the equipment out to verify problems, etc. and also when it's slow those skid loaders work nice for dumping rock in the mud holes in the lot.....etc, etc, etc

hello all, got back from CAT, didnt have to much fun, only stayed about 20 min then i got a hair and thought that i would go to the job fair to see what i could find. What a freakin joke. Less than 12 employers. 2 were military, workforce had a setup a couple staffing agencies, and the rest were colleges. Last time i go to a "job fair".

Hey Chrissy, Jerry. That sucks about the job fair thing. Probably just shows how bad it's getting, when nobody is hiring!

Chrissy, hope it works out with the KR and Joe's folks this time!

I think we give kids unrealistic expections of time off when it snows... all of us still have to go to work, they should have to walk uphill both ways to school!!!

Here's a photo of the new casa in Elk Point, SD...

We've got the home inspector coming out tomorrow and hopefully everything will check out OK. I don't think I had posted this specific house before, but it is nearly identical to another one just a block from my apartment. This one already has the lower level finished so I'm off the hook for home improvements!
Nice pad Rob! I hope everything goes fine and you get it and also get that 79 ford to park in that single garage!

Hey Jerry- that CAT place sounds awesome. Someone needs to start an adult day care center for guys that like to play with machinery... kind of like a life size sand box! Too bad the start-up costs would be huge for all that equipment, then of course some idiot would drive a dump truck over someone else, then the lawsuits, etc.... Oh well, it sounded like a good idea!
That would be sweet! only if i was rich!

KOOK OF THE DAY!!!

The Nobel Prizes was handed out today in Stockholm on the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel (1833-1896). The Swedish chemist and engineer held 350 patents, including one for dynamite. Wishing to be remembered for more peaceful things, Nobel bequeathed his fortune to establish the annual award for accomplishments in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and the promotion of international peace. In 1968, a prize for economics was added. Each Nobel Prize brings with it a diploma, a medal and a monetary award of SEK 10 million (over US $1.2 million).

and the 2008 winner is;
Former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari received the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize at a grand ceremony in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

In his opening address, Nobel Committee Chairman Ole Danbolt Mjoes expressed his appreciation of the efforts by Ahtisaari to "resolve international conflicts on several continents and over more than three decades".

Mjoes then awarded Ahtisaari the gold medal and the diploma for the Nobel Peace Prize, which carries about 10 million Swedish kronor (about 1.2 million U.S. dollars) in prize money.

In his speech, Ahtisaari said all conflicts can be settled and there are no excuses for allowing them to become eternal.

The only people that can make peace are the parties to the conflict, he added. The parties responsible for the conflict and its consequences should be accorded responsibility and recognition for making peace efforts, he added.

Afternoon folks.... the house passed with flying colors. We are having a radon test, so won't get that back till Friday. I'm still not convinced that radon is a big deal, but we got burned and had to pay at closing for a house we sold, so we always have it tested up front now.

Afternoon Rob. Good to hear everything went well. My brother has a house that had a radon problem, so now he has this air pump thing on it. Not sure how it's supposed to work. We have problems here at work with Radon. On cool mornings in the spring and fall, we have people that have problems with our personnel monitors, since their clothes have absorbed enough Radon to detect it. Not at dangerous levels, though.

Yeah.. we had one of those Radon systems installed in our house in Omaha when we bought it (seller paid) because the test showed high levels, although, i'm with you Rob.. i don't see that it is really that big of an issue, considering that people have lived in the house for 30 years and not had problems.. why would it be so bad now? but whatever. i didn't have to pay for it!

Yeah, I hear ya... This house is a split-foyer style, so the basement really isn't completely underground, but the kids' rooms will be down there, and I don't want to get stuck putting one in if I ever have to sell. Also, my man-cave will be down there, maybe I can say "it's the Radon" not the beer making me loopy, I'm sure the wife will believe me!
