Early 99 + AE = NO Cylinder Rotation Values?

Hi all,
I have been chasing down a power / rough running issue and wanted to do a cylinder rotational value comparison. Hooked up my brand new AE and - Nothing - i do not have the Cyl Rot Values listed in the drop down box...
Talked to AE they say:

"It's not an issue with the software. We do support the Cylinder 1 Change
Rotational Velocity or PERDELS. It's in our software for any model 99-04
7.3L. Check your truck is really a 99 and not a 98. Prior to 99 there is no
such thing as PERDELs. You can't fool the scan tool into giving PIDs in this
case. If the model year selection is correct then retry your connection. I
find it odd that only the different PIDs from 98 and 99 are missing.
Something is wrong with the ECM."

Does any one here have AE and an early 99 F250? Are you able to view this data?
Aslo i have heard mention about a recall to flash upgrade the older PCM...any one have info on this...
If not i guess i will start swapping injectors around to see if the Weak sounding #5 and the Failed CCT #8 is injector problem or ather more serious problem...
Thank you,
</pre>

I think it says something like Change Rotational Velocity Cylinder X. If you can't find it on the drop down menu in the live data tab, try pretending your truck is a 2000 to see if you can find it.

I know I've checked it on a 99.5 model at work (selected 99 model year) but that was on an older version of AE. I've got the update version now. If you still aren't having any luck, I can check my new version on the 99 next week to see if I have the same problem.

Also, make sure the engine is warmed up before taking these readings. The PCM won't register rotational velocity % until 160 or 170 deg.

Thanks Chris,
I havent thought about trying to connect as a 2000 truck. I will try that in the morning after my drive to work...
BTW i am hooked to ae...i have spent the past 2 days just driving around and recording different sensor data....
Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

No problem. It's definitely a neat little toy if you can understand what half all that info is. Let me know if you don't get anywhere. I'm out of town right now, but I can hood mine up to the 99 on Monday if you can't figure anything out before then.

Mine is a pre 99 and I was able to read mine with out any problem. PCM code is XLE4 if that matters.

Does AE rely on PCM code for doing its tests? I have an early bird with an 01 PCM so I should be fine, but just curious.

AE makes it sound like it does have to do with the info on your PCM...To me the AE log looks like it queries the PCM and then gets a list of "sensors" that it has available.
I will keep digging into this and find out...I have a laundry list of things to do over the long weekend and now one of them is to take a look at my PCM and find out about the possibility of upgrading it with a new Flash.
Anyways, I will keep you all posted

This is good info Mike. I can't find it when I am scanning my early 99 but ran across it while doing a friends late 99. I will have to look again. I also have the XLE4.

Dang it- I meant to look at my pcm when i was working on it yesterday!!!
I will have to take a look in the morning!!!
Makes me feel better knowing that there are others with early 99's that cant see the PIDs
I need to find more info on the pcm - maybe talk to Jody too - since I have already asked for a DP tuner for Xmas

Robin - Wahts the build date on your truck? I just noticed your sig 99.25?? Mine is Feb98

Robin has started changing some parts. He's on his way to making his a 99.5, or late model 99.

You might give him a call. It seems like he's got a few PCM's laying around. Of course I don't know if you would need an updated PCM or if his chip does enough updating on it's own.
