You'll put some stress on the o-rings when installing them on the injector. Allow them 30 minutes or so after you install the o-ring before you install the injector. Allows it time to shrink to the injector.

Also, if you mix a cap full of vasoline with some engine oil it makes a super slick lubricant for installing the injectors.

Thanks allot.

Also what about the copper washer that goes on the bottom of the injector? How do you get it to stay on while putting the injector in the bore.

Copper washers are crimped so they should hold themselves on. If they fall off, then you're probably re-using them, and it's a good idea to use new ones. But if you insist on re-using yours, a dab of grease on the end of the injector will hold them on and not affect anything once they are in.

in the AG shop on campus we have an injector tester...you stick in the injector on the instrument, full the tank w/diesel, pump up the tester then open the valve and it allows you to see the atomization of the fuel as the injector does its thing.
The 7.3 injector does not work this way. You need High Pressure Oil (like min 1k psi), fuel system, and electronics just to fire the darn things ONE TIME for about 6 milliseconds.

There's nothing the average guy can do to test them other than check solenoid ohms, as mentioned. I can tell you it's pretty easy to build a 'test bench' for the injectors, but extrememly difficult to build a device to accurately flow them.

As for flow matching them, I have been flow matching my injectors for a little while now, but I am learning something new all the time and I am not yet comfortable taking money for this service. I feel there are still tricks I need to find to really do things right and it's just a matter of time.

Is flow matching important?
Each injector wears differently, so I can guaran-dang-tee you that the set in your truck right now is not flow balanced, unless it's been done recently. And rebuilding them, or building them bigger will not really make them unbalanced, they already are now. So if you feel your truck runs good now, then it should run good when any work is done to them. Basically...
I can tell you that I typically find sets of used injectors off around 15% to 20% from highest to lowest. Flow matching I try to get around 5% or less when I can, but anything is better than being 20% off...

Hope this helps.

Like Jim said. IF they won't stay on, a little dab of grease will do the trick.
