can I test injectors before installing??

I'm finishing up my 7.3ps, and about to install the injectors, is there any test I can do on them before I put then in the heads. I'd hate to put this engine in the truck and then find out the injectors are bad.

pretty much no you can't. you can test the electrical solenoid with an ohm meter. They should read about 2.5 to 3 ohms and that is about it.

If I had my engine out I would send them off to be tested, most injection shops can either test them or they can send them off to be tested, normally about $35 a piece to test.

Question

I have read something about a "flow test bench" , is that what the first post asked or what is about it?

Yep Jose, but an injector flow bench is mighty expensive to own.
Like Andy said, most injector rebuild shops should have one if you think they need to be tested.
The place you got them from should have flowed them of they are a quality re-builder.
If you're doing a set of DIY'ers then I would definitely get them tested.

When my neighbor needed some tested he had to send them to South Mississippi, somewhere near Jackson, I think. No one had one in Montgomery or Birmingham Alabama

Thank you Jim. But I dont think that all of the DIY´ers here in the forum have had them tested and I think they work well IDK. So they would but not MOST, am I right?

That's right but I don't like doing things twice. Not sure how many DIY'ers had trouble. Most of the install trouble comes form the o rings IIRC

you get a mouth-full of diesel fuel then blow it through the injector to check the atmoization of the fuel

but seriously, in the AG shop on campus we have an injector tester...you stick in the injector on the instrument, full the tank w/diesel, pump up the tester then open the valve and it allows you to see the atomization of the fuel as the injector does its thing.

We have used it on a few tractors, my truck and another guys 6.blow and it has worked well

Just make sure the injectors are seated all the way down. I use a rubber mallet. If it's cocked going in you might nick an o ring. Use lube.
