My girlfriend just bought me Autometer Cobalt gauges (boost, EGT, and trans.) for Christmas... I am wondering if there are any tips/tricks to a gauge install. Thanks for your help!
The first thing you should do is MARRY HER! She sounds like a keeper lol.......just take your time on the install. None of it is all that hard, just be very careful when tapping the manifold for your pyro. Use several bits working up to the size you need....the key is don't rush it. You'll be fine!

tell her that they wont work right unless you get a DP tuner. That way you can see the full sweep of the guages, and your seat of the pants dyno will be happy too.
Congratulations! I just finished installing my gauges last weekend. Take your time like everyone says. I had to go to the store and buy some connectors and wire loom, but other than that it went well. The only thing that was puzzling to me is that the wires on the gauges were very light weight and it was difficult for me to make a connection with them to a heavier gauge wire. I ended up twisting the wires together on the back of the gauges, ex., all the wire needing power on switch on, and then crimping one connector to them and the power wire. Did I make this confusing?
I just installed my gauges last week! love them. Only problem I ran into was when I daisy chained the wires for power and constant 12volt was I made the wires to short and when I went diving under the dash it was a bitch makin the conections with one hand! so make them long enoungh to reach!! thats assuming you are installing a pillar pod.
I would also say to pre-paint the pod. Get one coat on a day ahead, then do your second coat while you are doing the wiring. Take your time and read those directions that Rick posted, they are on the money.
One other suggestion - assuming you are installing an a-pillar gauge pod - lay a towel or shop rag on the dash when you are installing the pillar. You can really scratch your new paint job on the pod if you don't.
I did decide to go with an a-pillar pod. The direction and advise will help out a lot. Thanks for all the help... Now all I need to do is get started on making her Christmas present so its done in time...
I'm going to try to work on getting the DP Tuner for my B-Day.
Damn PMS is getting the best of me...
Befoere installing my gauges I bench tested them for proper operation and that all lamps worked. Just hooked them up to a 12v battery for power. Used a propane torch to check pyro gauge, boiling water for trans temp and a compressor for boost gauge. If I had a problem once installed I knew it would be the intallation and not the gauges.
