I have an '06 F-350 CC Dually with OEM Upfitter switches. They only operate when the key is in the ON (Run) position. I need the switches to operate all the time. Is there any reason anyone knows of to NOT run a fused constant hot to these switches? Now...can a constant (Battery) hot be run to all 4 at once or do they each need to be wired seperatley? Does anyone know which wire(s) coming off the upfitter switches need to be disconnected from the factory harness and reconnected to my batt. hot wire? It appears that there are also wires coming from behind the glovebox going to the upfitter switches.
Has anyone else already done this? (I can't be the 1st one to need these switches hot all the time, right???)
Thanks!!
Someone wrote extensively abot this topic in a previous forum. I apologys for being so vague, but is I recall it was in June or July 2008. Do a search and it may come up.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! I'll have to research this a bit more and take another close look under my dash at the wiring. Both links you sent me had answers to how to rewire the switches. Unfortunately the answers were different! Different color wires mentioned by both. Maybe the guy with the 2008 from Blue Oval has different wiring with his '08? Not sure. At least I know it's possible and one of them should work. I shulda' done this 2 weeks ago when it was 70 degrees out instead of now when it's freezing!
Thanks again guys!
All you have to do is find the upfitter switch control relay, remove it and make a jumper lead to connect the terminal in the socket that is hot all the time to the feed terminal in the socket.
I don't have my manual handy to see which relay it is but that is all it takes.
Thanks Greg! So, is this a real service manual you have? I don't have one so if it's at all possible for you to give me some specifics that would be a huge help. There's only about a zillion relays and wires in this truck so if I could narrow it down to say....the EXACT relay and wire....that would help. I tried to rewire the switched when I bought the truck and unless you know exactly which wires to cut, jump or rewire there's simply too many to choose from. I musta' poked holes in a dozen wires and then figured it must be relay activated and after searching for the correct relay for an hour decided to forget the whole thing. This has been a thorn in my side since day one. I always had nice aftermarket switch boxes in my trucks and was so excited to get these OEM switches, even though there's only 4, then I realized I had to have the ignition on to use 'em. I don't want to burn up my glow plugs or any other wiring nor do I want dead batteries so I really appreciate the help with this. At least I feel like I'm getting closer to a solution!
Thanks...
The fuse and relay positions are listed in your owners manual.
You need to find relay #305 (Upfitter Control) in the fuse panel under your dash and pull it out.
Then make a 1-2" jumper wire with male spade connectors at each end.
Plug one end into the bottom socket (#87) and plug the other end into the top socket (#30). The relay that you pulled out has the terminal numbers on it.
There is no negative results from back feed into the truck when you do this, as far as anything staying on? Will this do all 4? Can you do them individually?

There are no negative results from doing this other than you have to remember to switch them off. The relay is to make the switches hot only when the key is on, so all this does is makes the switches think that the key is always on.
This does all 4 at once, to do them individually you will have to tap into the back of each switch that you want to make hot and replace the feed wire with a hot wire.
Thank you Greg!I bought this truck 2 years ago and have been aggravated by the way these switches operated from the moment I first wired my lights to them. I'm a volunteer firefighter and use blue lights for that and also own an excavating business and have a bunch of amber lights that often times need to be on for hours at a time when working on a roadway, etc. With your simple instructions I "fixed" my problem in about 45 seconds. Really. It took me about 30 seconds to make the jumper and 15 seconds to remove the relay and install the jumper. What blows my mind is that no one at Ford or the local dealers could tell me how to do this. Amazing.
Thanks again.
