I've got a 2001 Ford Escape XLS With the 3.0L V6 and 4wd
When we first got it i noticed that the fuel economy SUCKED! So i pulled the air filter ou tof it and it looked like it probably hadnt been changed in a few years. I put a new one in and immediately had way better milage!
I average just over 400 kms / 250 miles to a tank which makes it way better on gas than my 89 f250 but im just wondering if i should be getting even better economy then that or is that pretty average???
I just bought a used Escape '01 XLS with 59,000 miles. It is a 4X4 with the V6. I checked the mileage on the first tank, which was about 70% highway driving. I have a light foot.
I was disappointed that I only saw 18.6 mpg.
Looking at the above posts and others, I thought I would see better.
Any suggestions? Tires are Bridgestone Duelers and are at proper PSI. Air filter looks good.
That's a great link because it lets you see how Ford has been able to improve the highway mileage in the new model over the original while adding 40 hp.
On our 01 V-6 4x4 escape, we got 18-19 mpg local and 24 mpg highway, Another thing that can help is swap to mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. Also if it has a lot of miles on it, try running a can of seafoam through it to get rid of any carbon build up and clean out the engine. You might also try a tune up and check your tire presures.
