How to get better mileage on a Job #1 truck

My truck is a job #1 and I was looking to improve fuel economy.
I drive pretty much the same way and the same roads all the time. So I reset my lie-O-meter and did not touch it for 1200 miles. After 1200 miles, I averaged 12.9 MPG in about a 50/50 mix of city/hwy driving.

I then installed the Job #2 larger air dam and repeated what I did above. With the air dam I got 14.1 MPG. Not a huge increase, but a worth while one.

Just thought I'd pass this on.

BTW: Driving my old 6.0 same roads; I averaged 14.9 - 15.4 mpg depending if I ran the Inovative Diesel tune or not. It was a short bed, new truck is a long bed. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

No reflash. The new flash improve mileage? If so - how much?

Look under your front bumper. See that black piece of plastic hanging down (it runs all the way across the front of the truck)? That's the air dam. In job two trucks it's longer, i.e. it hangs lower from the bumper. I think some have said that this widget is ~$100, but don't quote me.

Hey Thanks!

That is going to change MPG??? OK, heck I'll give that a try, I am wondering what this flash is for, do I have to complain about somehting to get it?

The lower air dam is supposed to smooth out the airflow beneath the truck. The smoother the the airflow, the lower the drag coefficient and therefore higher mileage. You'll see the effects best at highway speeds, not in stop-n-go traffic.

The only flash I know of helped a little for me but I was also having issues with rough shifting. Also at times the truck would seem to be hunting for gears. Most guys will run through the truck and if they dont find a problem they will do the flash if you tell them you have rough shifting.

I wonder if this would improve the mileage on the 4x2's also? Even the job2 4x2's come with the smaller air dam.

hard to believe

It's hard to believe an air dam could increase fuel economy by 2 to 3 mpg. I am only averaging 10mpg no matter how I drive. I have bigger tires which might make the lie-o-meter read lower but I am also hand calculating....anyways.....

If your calculating with your odometer you are still wrong because it is off to. Unless you fixed that.
