I've seen other posts on here about poor fuel economy. I bought a 06 F150 FX4 Supercab back in December. It has 5.4 engine 18" tires and 3.73 ratio. I haven't done any modifications. My fuel mileage has been really poor. Window sticker says you should get average 14 city 18 highway. I'd be really happy if I got that! I've been calculated everytime I fill up and best I got was 12mpg and thats cause I had some highway miles. Worst was 8.8 and I'm averaging 10.4 Does anyone know of any way to get better fuel mileage These gas prices are killing me just like they are everyone else!!Thanks!
Welcome to FTE. What kind of driving does this see? Gas mileage will be different, on average, from someone in the flat midwest, versus the hilly new england area. What kind of fuel do you use? How many miles on the truck?

Actually, this seems to be typical of the mileage of the 5.4s. The 4.6 still has plenty of power and gets roughly 6-8 more mpg than the 5.4s
There are a few who make ridiculous false claims of 16-20 mpg with their 5.4s. I certainly hope you didn't purchase your truck in hopes of getting the types of fuel economy posted on this site because most of them have to be taken with a grain (actually several grains) of salt.
I hope the reflashing helps with your poor (albeit typical) 5.4 mileage. I also hope that you continue to enjoy a great truck no matter what because all the F150s are nice trucks to own in my opinion.
I have an '04 FX4 with 5.4L and 3.73 gears. I gey 13.5 to 14.5 towing a 3000 lb Bass Boat running speed limit and 16.5 + on the highway empty. and I have 32000 miles on this sweet ride. I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. I would have bought a Ranger for mileage.
I get 13.5 regulalry with 100% city driving and less the 6K on the odo, still all stock. 5.4L, 3.73 gears and stock 275's I am hoping it goes up a bit after the engine brakes in.
If I remember right the stickers shows the "average" calculated off a worst of 10 or so in city. Remember the sticker MPG is calculated with an engine at full operating temperature, and no more than 50% ( ? may be less ) throttle during acceleration. The highway MPG is calculate at 55MPH. Do you drive like this?
I've had 3 of the never F150's (two 04's and an 06) and basically all got around 12k town, 13 highway. Trucks are 100% stock, never tow either. I remeber even with the pre 04's I was still only getting 12-14 or so.
I got 15.5 not towing average/ 10.5 towing average my last couple tanks. No mods except for leveling kit. I have an Edge Evolution now so we'll see if that helps on the next tank. '04 F150 5.4 3:73 SCAB FX4
I have the 4.6L and my dad has the 5.4L and he gets on average 1-2 mpg better then me, he tells me its because I have a heavy set of 22's little heavier then average, i recently installed a throttle body spacer and has actually raised my mpg's, not a whole lot but over a distance i noticed an addition of 12 or so more miles till low fuel light came on
i am gonna have to disagree about the 4.6 getting 6-8mpg more. my 4.6 gets 10 city 15hwy and that is being conservative, most everyone i have talked to at the dealership with a 5.4 seems to get better.
Man I can relate! I just got my 2006 F-150 Supercab 4x4 two weeks ago and the mileage is killing me. Two tanks, I averaged just under 12 mpg. I'm on my third tank and TRYING to keep my foot out of it. I am trying to sell my 95 F-150 6 cyl. but the more I drive this new one I am considering keeping it just for driving to work.
Just drove a 120 mile trip today. One way up hill climbing about 5k feet and averaged 12.5 mpg. Then down hill got 13 mpg. The average speed was about 77 mph. The truck is a 5.4 screw 3.73.
