i have an 02 f-350 and was wondering what the deal is with stacking? i have a programmer currently that has a 120hp setting on it and my truck flys i was thinking about also getting a chip to install also for more power (buddy has a 05 duramax chiped with a programmer and i want to show him up in a race) how much does this help will i get the max hp out of both devies? also will a end up damaging anything on my truck ? let me know what you think
i dont really have many performance mods just the usual 4in turboback exhaust and a afe 2stage air intake and a programmer but i am also looking into biggers injectors and turbo also any performance mods you can think of i would like to hear

Chips and programmers do not stack on the Powerstroke. Any chip will automatically override whatever the programmer has tuned on the PCM. So it ends up becoming a waste of money if you try to stack.
As for racing the Dmax, you'll lose big time.

Once you start to go beyond the typical chip/intake/exhaust mods, it gets expensive. You'll need to have a built tranny to handle any additional power, since the stocker is the weakest link. Injectors will by far give you the greatest power increase. The problem is that your truck is a 2002, and all of those came with powdered metal rods (PMR's) instead of the forged ones found in 99-00 trucks (and very few 01's). With PMR's, you are considered "safe" at under 400 rwhp. If you plan to go beyond that, you'll need a full rebuild of the short block to be able to reliably handle increased power levels.
Right now with your current mods, you're probably around 300-310 hp at the rear wheels.

That all depends on what programmer you have. That 120 from some of them isn't really anywhere close. Get you a DP tuner and you will be where Curtis said. If it's a Superchips or something it probably isn't above 300.
Dangit Curtis....you beat me to it again. Great advise though, I'll catch ya on the flipside.
I will say to the OP that being able to "chip" a Duramax is like calling a "Supercab" Ford a "Club Cab". There's a bit of difference between chips, modules, and tuner/programmers. I'd LOVE to see a "chip" for a Duramax.

Yep. There's no sense in even trying to beat a 'max in a race (even a stock LLY/LBZ/LMM)....you'll get your *** handed to you. LB7...maybe there's a chance....but not anything newer than '04.5.
You must have some heavy mods if you think you will beat a chiped DMAX.
X2..

Yep would get more power for less money too.

Your going to need to get a Dp-tuner or similar anyway then for a new turbo and sticks..
Dump about $8000 into your motor & tranny first, then he'll only beat you by a little bit. He'll still win in a Chipped Duracrap. A saying Kris said once on here is fitting in this situation..... "Racing a 7.3L is like bringing an expensive sword to a gunfight"
My programmer does it all. Does your dp tell you quarter mile times, 1/4 mile times, DTC codes etc..
and what exactly IS this mystery programmer you have? We have seen them all on here, and some of us have tried several before stepping up to DP or Tony Wildman. Nothing else is even close. I'm gonna schitt myself if you say BANKS
Can't stack? What about edge juice w/ attitude I do believe that is a stack kit.
I understand what you are saying, but my DP has all the ATTITUDE I need. Many people here has changed from the Edge to the DP and will never go back. I think people should run what they feel is the best for them. No one but me is paying for my mods, so I will run what I want, as long as the guys here say it's ok.
