This one got you a rep, thanks for being human.

My old roommate called that the "good ol boy system". He laughed about it. I was irritated by it. I've known quite a few officers who did not follow the very rules they lived to enforce.

Mike I think thats why we are all so comfortable around you. We know you are just like us and you don't abuse your situation.

Here in Colorado, supposedly there is a law that states that if it is UNSAFE to stop at a traffic light, you cannot be given a ticket for running it...for example, if you know you'll get in an accident, can't stop because of ice, etc. I also think that you have to be able to prove that was the case, or the officer has to see it.

I also saw on TV a while back, a video in which two young people were speeding and got pulled over. They had a dog in the car who was dying, choking I think, and they were trying to get the dog to an emergency vet before he died. The cop stood there and lectured the two kids, and kept them there for 20 minutes, no matter how much the driver begged and pleaded to let them get their dog to the vet. The cop was a total *** about it, and didn't seem to care. The driver didn't care about the ticket he just wanted the ticket quickly so he could get the care his dog needed.

Well the dog ended up dying right there as the cop was writing the ticket. The driver ended up taking it to court and won, got the ticket erased anyway. I think the officer got in trouble for that one, but it wasn't much.

I feel the same way too with my dog. If she needed to get somewhere I would stop long enough to tell the cop to follow me, and he could give me a ticket after.

Some people dont follow that line of thinking, but if there was a kid in the backseat dying, you can bet the cop woulda let them kids go.

Yep. A good cop would have seen what was going on, and would have lead the way (or followed) with lights flashing.

As I recall, forgot to put this in my original story....in the video while the kids were pleading to let them go, the cop said "you can get another dog".

Here is the video. Found it on youtube.

Eh, thats a tough one. I can actually see both sides to that one. Cops have to be cautious, and he had no way of knowing, off the bat, what was going on. The first video showed like just over 2 minutes of footage, and the cop seemed to be understanding at the end (not in the middle though!)

I would have tried my best to get the officer to lead me to the vet, or follow me there in the first place.

Even though the fella was frantic, i can see why he got pulled over....

Tough one...

I don't think I would have stopped at all, until I was at the vet's. My dogs mean more to me than a ticket...even if it is jail time for resisting arrest, or whatever the charge would be for not pulling over. At least then my dogs would still be at home, waiting for me after that.

I agree Jeremy.

Sheldon what the first video doesn't show was that the cop made them sit there for TWENTY MINUTES. That is cruel and unusual punishment.

Its called you pull them over, find out what the problem is, maybe give them a brief lecture on careless driving, follow them to the vet, and then give them a ticket. At least then their dog doesn't die a slow and horribly painful death.

Dont get me wrong, I would have found a way to make it to the vet without waiting 20 minutes, whether it got me another ticket or not.

I guess with having to see the rest of the 20 minutes would make a harder impact, I was just trying to point out that I can see why the couple got pulled over. In no way do I agree that because they were speeding, they should have had to wait there, while their dog died.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wasn't trying to make it sound like I was arguing with you. I know you are an animal lover too.

My dad was driving my truck one morning about 9am with just the factory fog lights on... and this d!ckhe@d of a cop pulled him over and told him that it is illegal to have factory fog lights/any fog lights on without headlights on no matter the time... He told my dad it was like a $200+ fine. but my dad told him that it wasn't his truck and he was unaware they came on with just the parking lights. the cop told him not to do it again. but the funny part is that my truck sits up kinda high and the cops not necessarily on the tall side and he had a hard time seeing into the truck when he was talking to my dad because his chin was at the bottom of my window.

after that incident i spoke with a Wayne county sheriff and he told me that there is no such law and that almost all the new cars are set up where you can turn the fog lights on with the parking lights. he also mentioned that he was embarrassed that a cop would pull someone over for something like that.

I've been pulled over once, in my CC 7.3l PSD while towing a car.. it seems that in the middle of nowhere eastern colorado has random speed changes, was doing 75 in a 65[missed the speed change]. Think it was cause of the surprise of seeing a woman, 3 kids and the dog in the cab was the reason I only got a written warning. glad the hubby wasnt there that day.
