Got my first speeding ticket
I have looked down at my speedo and realized I was speeding too. I know when I do it that I am no different than anyone else and will have to take my medicine. I don't pull out my credentials. I don't appreciate it when another officer does it to me either. Matter of fact, it pisses me off.
Mike I think thats why we are all so comfortable around you. We know you are just like us and you don't abuse your situation.
Here in Colorado, supposedly there is a law that states that if it is UNSAFE to stop at a traffic light, you cannot be given a ticket for running it...for example, if you know you'll get in an accident, can't stop because of ice, etc. I also think that you have to be able to prove that was the case, or the officer has to see it.
I also saw on TV a while back, a video in which two young people were speeding and got pulled over. They had a dog in the car who was dying, choking I think, and they were trying to get the dog to an emergency vet before he died. The cop stood there and lectured the two kids, and kept them there for 20 minutes, no matter how much the driver begged and pleaded to let them get their dog to the vet. The cop was a total *** about it, and didn't seem to care. The driver didn't care about the ticket he just wanted the ticket quickly so he could get the care his dog needed.
Well the dog ended up dying right there as the cop was writing the ticket. The driver ended up taking it to court and won, got the ticket erased anyway. I think the officer got in trouble for that one, but it wasn't much.

Some people dont follow that line of thinking, but if there was a kid in the backseat dying, you can bet the cop woulda let them kids go.
As I recall, forgot to put this in my original story....in the video while the kids were pleading to let them go, the cop said "you can get another dog".
Here is the video. Found it on youtube.

I would have tried my best to get the officer to lead me to the vet, or follow me there in the first place.
Even though the fella was frantic, i can see why he got pulled over....
Tough one...
Sheldon what the first video doesn't show was that the cop made them sit there for TWENTY MINUTES. That is cruel and unusual punishment.
Its called you pull them over, find out what the problem is, maybe give them a brief lecture on careless driving, follow them to the vet, and then give them a ticket. At least then their dog doesn't die a slow and horribly painful death.

I guess with having to see the rest of the 20 minutes would make a harder impact, I was just trying to point out that I can see why the couple got pulled over. In no way do I agree that because they were speeding, they should have had to wait there, while their dog died.

after that incident i spoke with a Wayne county sheriff and he told me that there is no such law and that almost all the new cars are set up where you can turn the fog lights on with the parking lights. he also mentioned that he was embarrassed that a cop would pull someone over for something like that.
