it's ALWAYS a bummer gettin popped for speeding! Check out my story, this cop has ice in his veins lol.......My daughter was 3 days old, and it was our first day outta the hospital. The breast feeding thing just wasn't working out, so I went to Walmart to buy a different style of breast pump. My wife called me when I was at the store looking and I could hear the baby screaming, so I hauled butt home. A motorcycle cop got me doin 53 in a 35, told him the story about the baby crying, SHOWED him the pump I bought and the heartless SOB just smiled and handed me my ticket. I went to traffic school and cancelled it out though! good times
Don't feel too bad. I just got one up by Chicago in my work truck. 71 in a 55 work zone (I still think he clocked the car in front of me, but what can you do). My lawyer says it will cost around $1000 and I may end up with a suspended license. I'll find out November 5th.
This is costly, fines are usually doubled in a work zone. Too many people are careless driving with people on the side of the road. We have a move over/slow down law here for emergency vehicles that will cost you dearly too.
I don't see any reason to lose your license for this unless you have racked up some points on your DL. Your state may be different.
Guess none of us are imune to tickets
I got my first speeding ticket bout 6 yrs ago after 40+ years of driving and 2+ million documented miles, being a teenager and hell raiser with years of street racing, just don't seem right although I had had many tickets of other charges
I was driving down US 27 in central Fla where somebody decided to install a new little town and a speed zone.
The speed limit went immediatly from 60 or 65 to 40 (signs about 100 yds apart) with no warning
About 100 ft inside speed zone sit a city cop with his little gun, think he got me at about 62
The origonal charge was $280 but county reduced it to a little over $200 after I went to defensive driving class
I used to get lots of tickets back in the day when I had my mustang, a few speeding, lots of stunting, got a stunting ticket one time for allowing a buddy to shoot a staple gun out of my car, got a allowing passenger to ride on exterior of vehicle, undue care and attention one time (doing 110 in a 50 while racing)
Last time I got a ticket was 2-3 years ago, speeding in a different province (10 over the limit) and it never did show up on my license!
I think there's another one I got, but can't remember it.
I remember it now. 71 in a 55 while traveling through Illinois. I was headed up to Gingerman Raceway in Michigan and though I had timed it just right to show up when the gates were opening for the first round of practice. I forgot about the time change though and was trying to make up the hour time difference. I was doing alright too until I got stopped and sat there for 45 minutes because the cop was having trouble pulling up the info on my license.
I got pulled over in Montana a few years ago doing 100 in a 65 (this was after they got rid of the "no speed limit" thing, mind you). The MHP trooper looked like he had been through the ringer sometime in the past. He had an eyepatch and was missing a few digits. I gave him my Utah license and my Utah CCP. He kind of groaned and told me that he didn't want to deal with all of the paperwork involved with an out of state concealed weapons permit. He told me to slow it down and sent me on my way!
That was the last time I have ever been pulled over. Maybe 5 years ago?
Every guy I rode motorcycles with back East (8yrs+ ago) had lost their license at least once. Even me. I didn't get any points on my license until my 13th speeding ticket (my buddy got the afternoon session and walked when the officer didn't show!!!) I've "car-surfed" an 87 Regal at 70mph (dumb! but oddly fun...) tripled the speed limit on the highway, and should be dead several times over.
Now I drive my truck like grandpa Moses with a broken right foot.
I've been incredibly stupid and incredibly lucky. Don't make it a habit. Go 15 over in a residential area and have a child run out in front of you after their ball/toy. Imagine trying to stop your 4tons in time.....
Still.... 165mph+ is really alot of fun!!!! Just do it in the right place.
Chris (That_guy) - if you're not familiar with Howard County cops, do yourself a favor and don't give them a reason
Brendan t sounds like you di the same kinda crazy stuff me and my friends used to.
Ever hang on the back of a mustang spoiler while doing 60mph on ice? Its quite the rush, even when the driver hits the ebrake and the car swing sideways and man do you swing out to the side hard!
not off the spoiler, no, but we'd tie a rope to something on the back end (tow loop, trunk latch, etc.) and go across ice, mud... heck, pile up enough leaves to sit on and you can do woods trails!!
We 'rappeled' down off the face of a train tunnel and started swinging in & out.... well, my bro had me a little pi$$ed that day, so I swung him until he smacked the roof of the tunnel - it was something over 60' tall inside, and he was hanging down about 20'.... he wasn't real happy, but MAN OH MAN did I enjoy it!!! (That boy's got one hellacious grip too!!)
maybe in a year or two I'll have a turbo bike and take it out to the Salt..... THAT would be wicked fun!!! 200+.... aaaaahhhhhhh... i'm getting jazzed just thinking about it!!!
