I actually dealt with some small town cops that were like that too. Never did record them though. It was kinda funny, whenever I was in the wrong (lets face it, back then it happened once or twice ) I fessed up, whenever they were in the wrong (which happened more then a guy would think) they would push a guy into going into court and the whole nine yards.
Last I hear the one cop that I was really having problems with (ended up scrapping him at a party house one night, oops "he did instigate it though") ended up getting fired for assaulting some older fella while trying to arrest him, and for telling a female if she had sex with him, he wouldnt give her a ticket.
I doubt it. In my case, you barely have any word in edgewise.
Traffic court is COMPLETELY different back East (at least in MD & VA). More like a 'normal' trial. When you are scheduled for a court appearance, it pretty much all happens right there. If you plead not guilty, you present your side/evidence and then the officer does their thing. You can cross examine the officer. I've tripped up one or two. Best part was when I saw my guy walking in to the courthouse with this smirk (when he saw me).... and then I pulled out the recorder. Dude went WHITE. Suddenly he didn't feel so good and had to leave for the day.... with no evidence against me, I walked, charges dismissed, no court fees.
There are great peace/police officers out there (evidence our very own Mike) and then there are shady bi***es that I'd love to go toe-to-toe with and give the @$$-whooping of a lifetime to.
What do you think my chances are Brendan. I flat out told the cop i was testing a new part on my truck, and that was the only reason i was speeding. Him, being a dick, just smirked at me and walked back to his car. I think if i can provide A. a service record AFTER he pulled me over of the speedo being recalibrated showing that it was extremely off and B. doing the driving improvement class (8 hrs off h*ll), I think i'd have a pretty good chance of it getting somewhat dropped. Him clocking me at 67 would have me showing 61 mph, which is acceptable after JUST dropping out of a 55mph zone. Hmmm......
Yea, i just want it reduced, the points and fine are the biggest thing. If it gets dropped even to 64mph, im looking at 4 points and maybe a $100 fine. I know i was speeding, flat out, not saying i wasn't. Heck, the woman at the Gen. district court told me that if i appeared it'll 99% probably get dropped lower. I think the recal would be more power in my court.
I went truck sledding through a field last year. Got an old car hood, tied it to the bumper of the truck, get on the hood and hold on. Terraces at 20 MPH while riding on the ground suddenly seem really big.
Sorry to hear about the troubles Will, I had a ticket where I ran a red light at 5 in the morning about a mile from work with no one around and when I passed the cop that came around the bend he noticed I had ran a red light and pulled me over ( I wasn't being patient because the light kept skipping me) He wrote me a ticket I went to court told the Judge I was sorry and got away with no points and I only had to pay court costs.
I've heard those boys down in Texas are serious about their bikes and highway racing. Stretched, slammed, and modded to the hilt. Oklahoma supposedly has it bad too. So much that their Highway Patrol has at least two guys trained and on fully modified Busas to chase them down.
The story I was told by a local officer here, who's a motorcycle cop and has talked with these guys in OK, is that the Hi Po called up Velocity Racing and told them to make two bikes as fast as possible. They then got two officers trained on how to ride them properly, and at speed. It's worked so well, that they are getting several more made and training more officers.
Could you imagine the sight of blasting down a highway at triple the speed limit and being caught by a Hi Po on a modded bike, lights ablaze?
That almost sounds like they went to the motorcycle squadron and took a poll to see how well the modded bikes were working. I'd bet every officer there thought they should get more of them. How'd you like to have a job where they paid you to ride one of those things up and down long flat stretches of road every day and chase other bikes.

That's how I've always looked at it. If you choose to speed, you should be prepared to pay the consequences if you get caught. Having a speedometer that's off might help, but I'd be willing to bet the Judge might have heard that one before. What will you say when he asks what was done to the truck to make the speedo off, and how long ago was this done? He could also ask why you weren't aware the speedo was off and compensated for that in your driving habits.
I haven't heard of this points thing. I'll have to check to see if we have that down here. My last speeding ticket was a couple of years ago (1988 I believe)
I have one ticket also. It was for 67 in a 45 too lol.
Cheapest beer Ill drink (well that Ill pay for lol) is Natty light.. Check to see If theres a Sams Club, BJs, Costco ect near you, back down in Fl at BJ's you could pick up beer about a dollar cheaper than anywhere else. Handles of Capt were $20 too. IIRC it was only $25 to sign up but you end up paying for that in the money you save.
Aint nothing wrong with the "Financial Light". But if I'm buying its BUD, or Coors original.

It costed me about $250, plus I had to show up in court and plead guilty to a lesser charge, a few points off my license..and when I went to court (Downtown Denver) I had to park in metered parking and ended up getting a ticket because the truck was too long and hung over into another metered parking spot. Another $40.
Sucks dude. Quit beer, maybe you'll save some money there!
Quit drinking!!!

This is costly, fines are usually doubled in a work zone. Too many people are careless driving with people on the side of the road. We have a move over/slow down law here for emergency vehicles that will cost you dearly too.
I don't see any reason to lose your license for this unless you have racked up some points on your DL. Your state may be different.
Ramen. Thats what I was going to say.

We had one of those kinda State cops around here when I was younger. Pulled the same truck over four different times, for various reasons. One of the two times he pulled me while driving it, I had the windows down the whole time and the SOB made me roll them up so he could check them, said the reason he pulled me was because he heard my exhaust. He didnt right me the ticket then but he got me later for that. Guess I shoulda fixed it when he warned me about it. He pulled my dad while driving it for no seatbelts. Then the SOB pulled the guy I sold it too and told him it smoked to much(he had blown the motor).
Anyways...Will, good luck with your court date. I know of a couple people that the speedo recalibration thing has helped down here in Amherst Co.. Just what ever you do dont get caught for nothing over in Rockbridge..They'll throw the book at you over there!

Every state utilizes the point system. The number of points you get may vary from state to state. Here in Colorado, once you turn 21 you have 12 points. If you use up all your points, you lose your license.
Thanks for the link Lisa. Can I use these points like carbon credits and sell off the ones I don't need?
They didn't start that in Texas until 2003, which is why I guess I don't remember hearing about it, although my daughter got her permit in 04, so you think I would have paid a little bit of attention. I must have been in denial about someone allowing her to get behind the wheel on public roads.
I got a ticket about 3 years ago on my own time. I got a CDL and its how i make my living so i don't play to much. To make a long story short, i get a light that clicks yellow real fast and i got tailgaters on my butt. So instead of jamming on my brakes i go thru the intersection carefully not to get it from behind. I get pulled over and handed a 3 point and 105.00 ticket. I go to court and its 8:59am and i think the cop isn't coming. Wrong. I ,m fighting the ticket because i felt i made a good last minute call not to get in an accident. I look at the officers badge and my ticket and his last name is the same as the Judges last name, no way am i going to win this one. Told the judge i got a CDL and she reduced it to a non moving violation, no points, Whew. I know you don't have a CDL but hope this helps. Or you can ask Tenn Mike, he knows better than anybody..
Before anyone asks, I cannot answer what a judge will do. It varies here even from city to state court. If I don't show up, it does not get dismissed. It gets reset and I get reamed.
I have only lost a couple of moving violation cases as they came with a lawyer. That is the system, they pay the fine or the lawyer. Either way, I don't care as I only write blatant violations or ones I have to. Nothing like almost being run over in the street directing traffic at an accident or fire scene.
I have looked down at my speedo and realized I was speeding too. I know when I do it that I am no different than anyone else and will have to take my medicine. I don't pull out my credentials. I don't appreciate it when another officer does it to me either. Matter of fact, it pisses me off.
